Odd noise i cant pin point
Ill try my best to describe the noise. It sounds like someone tapping a quarter on the front windshield. If thats not clear enough, remember those toys that had the two plastic ***** attached to a stick and u would bounce them off one another back and forth?
Anyways, it sounds like this noise is coming from the top of my dash board in front of the passenger seat. Its not anything loose banging around my glove box or anything, cause i tried taking everything out and it still happens
It only happens when i hit a bump or dent in the road, and it doesn't happened all the time. If anyone has any clue as to what this noise is, please help me out.

Blown strut makes a different sound.
I will tell you though, that noises in the tC are hard to pinpoint due to the reflections off the windows and moonroofs. I had a rattle in front of the sunroof controls once.. turned out it was something in the cupholder, took me about 10 minutes to figure it out because of the way the sound carried
Close the moonroof covers and remove everything loose in the car and then start trying to pinpoint it. I havent heard of this noise before.

Same here. I noticed that when the temp drop below 20 F, that tapping noise came about from the passenger side of the dash (even when my car is warmed up). It drives me nuts. I opened my dash to see if there is a loose screws, but none. I couldn't figure it out. when the temp goes above 20 F, then the noise is gone. i think it is something outside of the car that are constantly exposed to the cold tempurature, so no matter how warm your car becomes, it is still cold. Thus, the constant noise.
If anyone find out why, please post.

i heard something about a recall or something on pins in the windshield or part of the windshield wipers. someone wrote up a nice pdf file that explained what it was and how to fix it... ill try to find it for ya...but yeah i have the same noise if i accelerate quickly or hit bumps.
yes there is a service bulletin (not a recall, even when there are recalls, toyota doesn't call them recalls, FYI)..
anyway there is a service bulletin for most toyota's about the pins that locate the windshield into place. they need to be removed.
any scion dealer would be able to see all the TSB (technical service bulletins) for the tC and find this one about the ticking windshield.

interesting about the bulletin, im gonna have to get down to the service place soon.
FYI, last time i went down there about replacing the mirrors i had stolen, they told me it was about 2 hours worth of labor to install.....BIG LIE. 10 minutes for both. Thats a lot of extra money right there.

I live in CT and when the temp drops down to below 10 degress I hear the same thing.....it sounds like it's coming from the center of the dash where the windshield meets...but I only hear it when the temp drops.
