Default avic-d3 , allow door to close without having to recess unit?

I've drilled out the indents on the mounting bracket to allow the avic-d3 to recess, however I've had it in both normally, and now recessed and I don't like how far in it is.

Is there a way to allow the door to close while still being in the original mounting holes?

ya, i was the guy who dremeled the inside of the door. i actually thought it was really easy. just install it normally and check to see where the volume button hits the door. then take the console out and dremel the inside of the door.

I've already done this. I mention in my post I've already drilled the indents out and recessed the unit.

But I don't like how much it is recessed. Any other suggestions other than dremeling the door?

there's no way to do it other than dremel the door. unless you actually take off the door of course. either the door or the unit has to move and you state that you don't want to recess the unit. so either dremel the inside of the door or move the door.

how much plastic needs to be taken out of the inside of the door for it to close? A large chunk?

the inside of the door has high and low spots. I would guess that if you dremeled the high spot where the **** hits down to the level of the low spots you would be okay...i really have no idea tho. i recessed mine and i'm happy with it

actually you are correct, just dremel the "high" part where the **** is sitting to make it even with the "low" part.

I just installed my D3 2 weeks ago... it was really easy. I googled the mod you do to the wiring harness to bypass the e-brake and let you watch dvd's while driving... it was easy to do and parts cost a whole $1.50 at radio shack.

As far as redrilling holes or buying special adaptors so that the door closes over the D3..... don't waste your money.... if you remove the HVAC you can take a dremel to the inside of the door and make it clear the ****. You do not damage the outside of the door, there's another pannel on the inside and dead space between the 2 plastic pannels. If you trim it back with a dremel it takes 2 mins and costs you nothing. You cannot see the section you cut out after the D3 is installed because its on top of the HU when its open.
