hey, finally got it installed!!!

only problem is i can't get the ipod video function to work... i hear sounds, but no pictures. i got the ipod nano (lastest version.)

what i did was went to the ipod function on the d3. set it to video. set my ipod to video and the "tv output" to 'on' but still no picture.

any suggestions.

 

the newest ipods have problems displaying video. theres a work around for it but im not too sure exactly what it is. its something about apple having a new chip inside the ipod that doesnt allow for video out through unauthorized products which is fairly dumb on apples behalf. but you are not the only one with that problem. sorry dudes

 

oh ok. that sucks bad. well if anyone knows, please let me know.

and is it safe for me to put my gps antenna on top of the d3 unit? it's both magnetic but i didn't know if it would interfere with anything.

 

Ok think I got the harness wired correctly......question is this.......will the ebrake light stay on with the bypass done or does it go off.......dash lights drive me nutty.......I read all 20 pages of this thread but still not sure if it does.....can anyone confirm it goes off.thanks....

 

it goes off. it doesn't stay on. i just got mine installed and bypass. everything's normal and works fine. despite the fact that i damaged the hell out of the mute wire but it still works

 

so just a little info here... only the ipod 5.5 generation or older will play videos on the d3. i asked on avic411. so i had to return my silver 4gb nano. but however, in return, i bought a used (but execellent condition) 5th generation ipod and it works beautifully for only $130 on craigslist.

so not only did i save myself $20 (ipod nano was $150), i got 30gb versus the 4gb i had before, i got the color black (the color i wanted) versus silver, i got a free leather case, the previous owner had the movie rush hour 3 and transformer on there!!!!! and personally, i think the ipod looks better!

install is fairly easy.
if your looking for a tv i would definately wait since the fcc is cutting all over the air broadcasts in 2009, so buying one now (im not even sure if the pioneer tv tuner is compatible with the d3) wouldnt be the greatest idea.

and about the rebate thing, im not too sure if they are doing the $200 rebate thing any more directly from pioneer. but i could be wrong.

oh yeah and 7th gear.. i full heartedly agree about the gen 5/5.5 ipods look better than the current ones. (gen5 ftw!) haha

 

hey i was wondering...im thinking about getting an avic-d3 with ipod cable and remote for about $612 at a local audio store after rebate. And installation would be about another $100 so about $712 and i was wondering is that a good deal?

 

seems pretty good. the d3 should be around $500-600 to be considered a "good" deal for me. cuz some places are selling them for $1000 still.

definitely install it yourself. i did it myself and from a scale of 1-10 in experience with electronics (1 being none to 10 being an expert) i say i'm a 2.

and surprisingly, the bypass and everything worked out on the first try.

 

I have installed many decks and this one was one of the easiest to do I have found yet.........the instructions are good.........and the pictures instructions on this thread made it even easier..........it all goes in this weekend.........12 hours and counting........this is week 3 of me deadening the car and guttign the car..........and many hours of hard work later it will all be in and not one bit done by anyone but me........

anyone know how long it took for their rebate to come back? i personally hate rebate cause it could be lost and what not. So can someone give me a estimate of wait time?
