Bass seems to pop or surge evry so often
I have the IPod head unit and stock stereo and it seems that when I turn the volume up to around 40 or so(using an ipod or cd), whenever a bass drum hits on its own, the speakers really seem to pop or surge, but when a held out low bass note is hit it doesn't at all.
Its the same problem with metal CDs i listen to. when the drummer is playing double bass pretty fast it sounds good, but when he switches it up to just single bass kicks, they pop sometimes. Is this normal?

definately not normal.
I had a couple kicker subs in my last car and even when the music was down low it would sound like a thunderstorm boomin. It turns out that there was some stuff in the amplifer that had gone wrong. Since i went with Rockford this time i have had no problems!
What amp/sub combo you runnin?

the stereo is all stock, direct from the dealership.
and it does this whether or not the volume or bass is turned up or not. If I turn down the bass the pops/surges just get a little fainter but definitely noticeable still. The only way I can get rid of them is to run next to no bass at all.

hold down ssp.. and change the car mode of the HU. change it with your volume control. You'll see..
Also.. If you have bass at -5 and it still popping, does it do it on ALL speakers? or just one?

Alright I'll see if changing the function to tC does anything...
and the bass really only pops when the bass is on about +2 usually (sometimes +1 with some of the music I have). It seems like its really only the door speakers that pop but I could try biasing the system more toward the rear speakers again. I tried it before but it didn't help at all.

I doubt that popping will go away if you do that....or that the music will sound good. I suggest going back to the dealer and inquiring because you could just have a defective headunit. because I run mine in the 50's all the time without popping or anything and I have the same setup (plus sub).
and we were talking changing to a different car mode, you might be in tC mode.. there is xB and xA modes.
so the popping doesn't happen under +2? Then chances are you're overloading your speakers. Driving the factory amp too far, resulting in the speakers to distort and pop. I've found that there is a lot of mid-bass thump from this radio. Most pioneers have that "bass-heavy" sound anyway. And that most likely you'll have to turn the bass down if you want to go that loud. Well with these speakers and HU.
I'm not saying that there isn't something wrong with your headunit, but there are limitations to the factory setup. You might want to go to the dealer and maybe have them show you another tC.. load up your music see if it does the same thing.. Just don't blow the speakers for someone else! lol
