Default Brake light problem?

My brake lights come on when I shift from 1st to 4th. As soon as I shift and give it some gas it comes on and then goes off. What is the cause of that? If you guys can give me some thoughts on it that would be great. Thanks

If it is the brake light indicator on the dash check the brake fluid level because when it's low it will turn on the brake light on the dash (it has a fluid level sensor inside the brake master cylinder reservoir).

Sorry guys, but I don't shift from 1st to 4th, I was trying to say when I shift 1st to 2nd to 3rd to 4th the light comes on. It's not the brake fluid I checked that already. The brake lights on my dash comes on. Now it's just staying on, and when I give it some gas it'll come on, but when I let the gas go it'll go off. Weird. But thanks for all the recommendation and thoughts so far.

it usually is caused by low brake fluid.. which is caused by worn down brake pads

check your brake pads first.

If it's not low on brake fluid than try this, disconnect the brake fluid sensor at the brake fluid reservoir ( gray 2 pin connector on side of brake fluid reservoir) when the brake light is on the dash (parking brake lever off and engine running) if it goes out then it is either low on fluid or the float is stuck inside the brake master fluid reservoir. Time to change your brake pads. Mine has been doing this for a while. Eventually it'll just stay on.

I'm pretty surprised that I've gotten over 84,000 miles on the stock pads...
