a blue cathode would be brighter. i don't have the pics but maybe someone else would post it up here.

-oznium.com has pics of cathodes and neons

cathodes light up a more general area as it is not a unidirectional spread of light like LEDs are..

as far as brightness... they're comparable... but it's mostly the light spread that differentiates the two.

because i have cold cathodes the keep braking the like tubes are just not very strong and durable, and neons more durable

uhh.. neons more durable? since when? i guess if you're talking about the difference between a thin tube and a big bulky one.. of course the bigger one would probably be less fragile..

uhm.. as i mentioned earlier.. cathodes give a greater spread of light.. and not unidirectional... big wash for cathodes..

at least more reliable... but i dunno how you've been installing them or even what man hands you have to be able to break cold cathodes so easily.

they're not that fragile.

this is a pic of neons in my car compared to cathodes:

neons:

cats:

the pic of the neons is from my camera phone so it sucks, and the pic of the cathodes are from my digital, but its dark, so that sucks too. i have had both in my car and can tell you that cathodes are much brighter than neons...the reason why i switched from cathodes to neons is because the neon tube is a much cleaner look if you have the tubes exposed, which i did for a few of them. if all of yours are going to be hidden, def go with the cathodes...much cheaper too.

oznium.com has a good forum which explains all of the differences...
