Default A/C rattle! What to do?

Arggh, despite having an in-cabin air filter, something has fallen into the a/c fan unit-thing.

Sorry, I don't know what the terminology for the actual part is. It's behind the glove box. If you pull out the in cabin filter tray, you can reach down into the slot and feel the fan below. DO NOT DO THIS WITH THE A/C ON!!!! Make sure it's off unless you want blood and fingers to come spraying out the a/c vents!

Anyway, now when I turn on my a/c, there's an annoying clicking sound (kind of like a playing card stuck in the spokes of a bicycle) and its friggin' loud as hell. I tried reaching down in (which is not easy) and 'feel' around for whatever it is making the sound, but can't seem to find it. I got so frustrated that I started punching the damn thing in the hopes that it would actually shake it out.

Actually, the shaking helped a bit because there is no more noise until you get to the highest a/c setting, and then you get it.

A. Is there some way for me to take that thing apart to find what's causing the noise?
B. Will the dealer cover this under warranty? Or will they be like, "Nope, acorns aren't in the warranty, so you owe us $500 and your left ********."

I know, I know, I can just never use the highest setting and not worry about it, but I still want it out in case it might actually damage something.

Thanks in advance for any advice!!!

wow, so agressive.

there are two sources for blower motor noise.

1. debris in the blower motor (leaf, some piece of foam insulation or something)

2. internal failure of the blower motor.

I can say that 1. is prolly the case, and the only fixable solution.

to remove the debris you may haev to remove the IP and remove the blwoer from that HVAC case.

if it is an inetrnal fault to the blower (which can happen) and is possible if it is only make noise at high speeds, then the only solution is to replace it. The motor that turns the fan is the fault.

is it more of a ticking sound? or a clicking sound. if it is ticking its most likely and internal fault, but a louder clocking is more likely yo be debris.

if you gave the area a nice whack, and the noise disappeared... it can still be either debris or internal fault. There coudl be brush debris build up in between the magents of the motor that may only be heard under high rpm conditions

first thing to do is make sure nothing is phsyically in the motor.

hope this helped.

not sure how to get the blower motor on these

oh, and by the way... noise should be covered under warranty, have them look at it if you are under warranty!!

Thanks for the tip, I'm pretty sure it's debris. Since it's still under warranty, I might just take it in rather than risk messing it up trying to take it apart. I was just trying to find out if there was some easier way to check for debris rather than rip the whole thing apart. Argghga.

Thanks again.
