Default This cable is THICK....

I'm getting ready to install my sound system tomorrow.. first phase will be the wiring, and I'm having sort of a mental block on how to get this damned 0 gauge power wire through the firewall. I see a grommet on the passenger side that should be the sweet spot.. but how in the hell to get a 0g wire through it?

Can anyone give me some tips as to not tear things up and make it a bit less painful lol..

I can already see I need to remove my strut bar and my wiper area plastic to get a good position...

Sigh... this is going to be a long day tomorrow!!

Oh yeah i forgot i have the day off from my corporate job to do this.. and what happens? I have to hit the dentist in the morning (awesome)!

I ran my 0 gauge through the boot of the steering column. I poked a pocket knife through it and pushed the wire through.

x2... make sure to get a new rubber grommet as well. And protect your wires with or something similar when passing through metal.

Better safe than sorry. I killed an old Orion XTR1400 when the vibrations from the car caused the grommet to come loose, and the wire was beginning to rub on the hole I cut. after a while, the inevitable happened and the power grounded out. I didn't have a fuse near the amp as well.

Needless to say, I've learned to be overly cautious.

Not a bad idea... I've thought about that already as it's sort of the least path of resistance and an easy run... any problems with the wire binding with any moving parts/etc?

I was thinking about just drilling through the firewall, but I'm not sure if/where we have vacuum lines/etc inside... some idiot at circuit city installed a system on my accent 9 years ago and hit a line in the firewall... not good...

cz3ch i ran it through the same place that sickle did and there really isn't any binding if you route it up kinda by the intake. i wouldn't want to drill a new hole through the firewall because theres too much ____ to get in the way. you can run lots of wires through that grommit. mandos ran i believe 3 0 gauges. 2 power and 1 negative so it can be done and its not that bad it just takes forever bc you have to be a contortionist (sp?) to do it.

Thanks Nebster... i think using this method just saved me like an hour on my install time lol.... I'm going to run it today... that should give me ample time to run the rest of the rca/etc while the car is officially gutted..

One day? It took me a week! Mind you, I laid 100 or so sq.ft. of sound deadening, but man, I could not get it done in one day.
