Car PC and speaker upgrade project worklog
Like I said, phone integration is completley handled by the parrot CK3000 kit, the soudncard just gives it a path to the speakers and allows me to mute via the touchscreen.
Dont need kb or mouse because it is a touchscreen

right right, i'm just a computer guy so i'm interested to hear the little bits and pieces :D
did you n-lite tinyxp to customize it even more or did you customize it all post install?
what does the regulation between the battery and the PSU? or is that part of the special PSU you got?

I would of nlite-ed it but this is just about what I needed and just as legal in my mind since I do have a legal cdkey that i used with it. It does needs a bit of tweaking, some services need to be turned back on to get all the drivers working/discovery services, etc, and then some more stuff can even be turned off. Some people who make these things even prevent the explorer shell from loading and just have the front end fire up.
PSU:http://store.mp3car.com/M2_ATX_160W_..._p/pwr-027.htm
The PSU is the beauty part of this system, it starts the pc 2 seconds after ignition is set to on, waits a few secs, then fires up the amps as not to get the 'thump' you get when you turn on a computer with the speakers powered. After acc is set to off, the pc gets sent a off signal to shut down and then the psu kills all power after 40 seconds regardless of what the pc did.

Good job.
What motherboard did you use and how is the cooling with it in the spare tire slot? It didn't look like you had any fans. Also what case did you use?

The mobo is cheap mATX am2 motherboard, nothing special with a 3400+ amd proc, 1gb of memory, 300gb hard drive, atapi dvd burner, and the cheapest matx slim line case I could find on newegg.com.
The case does have a 80mm case fan that sits really close to the cpu which also has a fan, on the test bench this thing never even got warm to the touch so I was planning on letting the cooling do its work in the sealed environment of the spare tire slot. If I do start to overheat I will look into additional venting but this thing is so low power (it doesn't even have a real video card, and the hard drive is a samsung spinpoint t low noise/power edition).
I have the case/cpu temp alarm set to 54c (129 F) which is about 20c below the failure rate of pc components. I bet I will never hear it, especially here in WI where a 90 degree summer day happens about as often as someone hits the lotto.

Interested in seeing how long that works. I want to do mine but the normal car pc mobo are like $200. Maybe I'll just try and do what you did but I'm in Florida so we get 85 degree days on Christmas.lol
I'm like you where most of my components will come free cuz I work in the IT field and have a ton of crap laying around. I think I know what I'm gonna use now. Which version of that screen do you have? I know there's one that's a little harder to see in the day time.
$200?! yikes, yeah mine was about $60 I think, its actually $50 now:

My thoughts on extra cooling were to take out one of the rubber grommets in the floor pan of the spare tire well and make a air scoop, the grommet is about 1.5-2inches in diameter, perfect amount of fresh air if need be. Especially at highway speeds.
