so deciding between 2 JL 12w6v2 with hifonics brutus 1206 or 2 diamond d912d4 hifonics brutus 2607...1st setup uses 1200 watts the other 2600...only concern of going with more powerful setup is will I need to replace the alternator and add a 2nd car battery? if so I rather keep it simple and stick with 1st setup which I can do myself...anyone have knowledge bout this, thinking 1200 watts could keep it simple 2600 takes me to the next level?

 

when you double the power you only gain 3db's. so is 3db's worth the extra money to you?

 

i run ~1700 or so everyday with only "moderate" voltage drops (aka down to 12.8v with the system running full tilt). the headlight dimming is noticeable... but it's not like my lights are turning on and off.

2600 though... that would require some additional electrical work definitely.


hifonics... meh. find a better amplifier brand. they're overrated by a good bit from teh factory according to birthsheets run on them.

 

if go with JL 12w6v2 subs then could just get 1000/1 jl slash amp, ig go with diamond d912d4s then in august they come out with diamond 2000 watt amp but I figure that means replacing the big 3, replacing battery with deep cycle (maybe get stinger since did the wiring with that brand or maybe an optima yellow top which seems to be popular) and like a 5 farad cap (trying to avoid having to get a high output alternator)

 

no stinger batteries, get a kinetik battery. and believe me caps do work in some cases so yes the 5 farad cap may be a good idea. i am running about 800 watts rms to 1 sub at 2ohms and i have the stock battery, didn't do the big three yet, but i did add 3 one farad caps and they made a difference for sure. i took 2 of the three caps out one night to see if i could hear or see a difference and it did make quite a difference in both sound quality and voltage drop.

 

tcguy85 how did you connect 3 1-farad caps together? I know you could use buss bars to connect 2 but 3?

 

they make buss bars for 3.
not the best pic but you can see 2 and some of the 3rd. everybody always looks shocked and tries to tell me it's overkill when they see 3 caps. but like i said i tried it with one of the three for a night and there was a difference.

 

well decided I didnt need that much system, going with the twin JL 12w6v2 subs and a rockford t10001bd with 2 caps...dont think need the 3rd cap
