Components, what should i do?
Ok, i've been waiting for the eD 6800 components to come out for a while now. I have no clue when they are going to be out, figured they would've been out by now. Right now i have Polk Audio db5250 components. They aren't horrible, but i'm just really tired of them and want something a little better. I really don't want to spend a lot on new components, because i plan to get the 6800s just as soon as they come out. I would prefere 6.5" speakers. What do you suggest that is cheap and good? One of my friends suggested the Cadence CWM 6Kit for $75 bucks? That sounds like a real good deal and i've read good things about those speakers. I'd like to keep the cost to under $150, and under $100 if possible, just for the simple reason i'll be getting the 6800s as soon as they come out. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Danny
Thanks,

well i bought the RSD 65cs's and honestly i expected more for all the hype. they're very harsh and i really like a mellow smooth tone. but will is right for 100 bucks they're not bad but i'd also just maybe get the 6000's from eD for 95 bucks, i really like the sound of those as apposed to the rsd 65cs
Well I am also waiting for the 6800s. From what I was told they are in production but not final stages. Somewhere in the range of another few months. I don't know if anyone else has some information but id like to know for sure when they will be out eD wont tell me anything else.
they dont know... i was over with some of the guys this weekend and they just released the 13av.2 this week so i suspect that the 6800's will enter the final stages within the next month, i think we'll see some answers sooner than later
If it is only gonna be about 1 or 2 months then i can survive with what i have now and not waste any money. However, if it is going to be another 4-5 months, something's got to give and so i'll have to get something to hold me over until then. The specs on the Cadence speakers i mentioned earlier seem to be just as good, if not better than the Phoenix components. Which do you think is better and why?
Ok, i think i've decided what to do. Since i can't make up my mind about components, i guess i'll just wait til the 6800s come out. I think i may buy a 11Ov.2 and try it out, see how it compares to the sq10 i have back there right now. Lol, kinda funny how my whole system has slowly been converting to Elemental Designs.
try the rsd's. i guess everybody has their own opinions but 99.9% of the people who have used the rsd's love(d) them. i currently have them run active on a TON of power and they sound amazing.
Build a baffle for them. The more mass you have around the speaker - supporting it - the better. There are some horror shows with MDF looking like a sponge from the moisture, so I would use something more suitable for the elements. You can find composite (recycled plastic) material at Home Depot/Lowes.
Don't forget to Dynamat your doors!
Place the tweeter in the kick panel, on the angled part - towards the shifter.

x2 with stated above,
also if you like a little brighter sound put the tweeter on the pillar and point it towards the windshield on the other side (driver aimed towards the passenger side, passenger aimed towards the driver side). I really like the sound of this, i'll have both my 3" dome midrange and my 2" silk tweeter up there when i get my new components.

the kicks in the tc is a great spot for the tweeters. it keeps them pretty darn close to the mids cause the mids are pretty forward and low in the doors. they (at least in my install) image VERY well! when the volume is at moderate to high levels my stage height it VERY high and has pretty good depth as well.. most of the time when the vocals are centered in the recording itself, my vocals sound like they are coming from about a foot in front (in front meaning like right outside the windshield) of my rear view mirror.
if you put them high in the kicks they won't be blocked by your legs or most passengers legs either. at least if your not a giant. i know my legs and most of my passengers legs don't block the tweeters at all. also if the tweeters you have can swivel, with a bit of work you can get the left side on axis, the right side is cake.
a few quick pics of the rsd tweets in the kicks...

a pic of how i made ghetto pods for the left tweeter to point it on axis..

and a pic from a distance..

soooo... like i said, they work well down there in the tc, especially on axis, its easy to mount them there, and they don't look bad down there either.

i then made another set of mdf baffles but totally soaked them in primer, paint and clear coat. then once they were on i took it one step further and took the lil extra edead i had and wrapped them in that as well.
the old destroyed ones...

the new ones...

and yes deaden AND seal those doors too. kills some road noise, kills rattles and buzzes, and gives you a LOT of extra mid-bass. the extra mid-bass is the really fun part.
My whole car is already pretty well deadened. except for the top of the hatch and the firewall, which to me both parts seemed like a PITA to get to. The part in the hatch just cut the devil out of my hands when i tried to get it in there so i said screw that. Doesn't seem to affect much though. My doors are deadened pretty thickly on the inside, i just don't have them completely sealed yet because i've been throwing different ideas around. and didn't want to make the doors too hard to get into just yet.
