The Dreaded ERROR-4 message.
Yes, its an 05. Yes ive searched the forum and i know my headunit probably needs to be replaced. However, I have the ERROR-4 message which ive gotten it in the past only this time turning the car off and back on again does not resolve the problem. Ive tried resetting the ECU by unplugging the negative on my battery. I still get the blinking error 4 message and i can only play the radio.
Is there anything i can do to get it to work again until i get to replacing the headunit? Or am i basically screwed?
Thanks for any info.
Joe

super common problem for the older models
the remedies that i have seen have been brought to the dealers, and replaced from there, but you are probably out of the loop for warranty work

To repair the error 4 you need to re-lube the internal metal mechanisms of the changer. Apparently the original white lube wears out or dries up.
It took me four attempts to disassemble deeply enough and find the correct lube.
If you are very technical, you need to unlayer many circuit boards to reach the multiple sliding surfaces.
Its been awhile, but I think I needed to desolder some ground attachments.
The lube that works long-term is a combination of marvel Mystery oil and white lithuim grease.
My headunit's repair is still working perfectly.
