Default is factory sub powered?

is the optional, factory sub for the tC powered already or is there an external amp for it? also - how does that connect to the factory speakers since there are no rca's

It's powered... but it's not terribly much.

It has a factory harness that you connect to the head unit and run through the car to the rear. That plugs directly into the back of the sub. It's cake, really.

The only reason I have it is b/c I got a great deal on it from the Classifieds here, otherwise, I don't think it's worth the money. Sounds OK, but you can do better for a couple more $$.

If you take it somewhere, they could do it. Could just splice into the high level inputs of the amp from the rear speakers. Some people also make adapters that have RCA jacks on them. Check ebay, some guy has some usually on there. Don't know how well they work though.

Adding an external amp isn't going to put any kind of "strain" on your HU...
