Flip-Out Screens?
I'd like to ask the help of those who are more technologically savvy than I am
so PLEASE, don't bash me for not knowing anything ):
Alright, so I think right now for me is time to start working on the inside of
my tC. I'm happy with my exterior mods and I feel that I need to spice up
the interior of my car...
I don't know scratch about audio/visual mods so I'm here to ask your opinion
and some knowledge about it.
What I'm thinking of doing to my car is to add some sort of flip-out screen.
I'm not sure on the terminology of that, but if I'm wrong...
I want the type of screen that doesn't sit in the dash. I want it to roll out and
flip-up cause I really like the look of that cause it seems more "cool" to me.
(But to each his/her own right?)
I'm not really looking for superb top of the line quality because I'm not so
much into having the most expensive and extreme set-up. Just enough to play
some dvd's, music video's, mp3's, etc. etc. that me and my girlfriend can enjoy
in my car.
Can anyone suggest any brands or specific types for me?
Also, if I do go ahead with this flip-out screen idea...
- Would I have to remove the radio cover?
- Would I have to upgrade my speakers?
And one more thing...
I see the term double din or something like that thrown around a lot.
Can anyone define this for me and are there different types?
I really do appreciate it guys!

i really like Pioneer decks personally. the AVH-P5700DVD sounds pretty close as to what you are describing. really simple, no nav or anything. but check crutchfield they have some more im sure.
some good brands that i trust, pioneer, alpine, eclipse, kenwood and jvc. i just prefer pioneer since ive had pioneer since the start and all the decks ive owned havent gone wrong on me.
as for flip out screens.
no you dont necessarily need to upgrade your speakers. they will sound alot better if you do, but you dont have to.
as for radio cover. MOST of the time you will have to remove it. i think i came accross it once where they did not have to remove the cover, and i forgot which deck it was, but most likely you will have too, lest you wanna go through alot of retrofitting. even at taht is not a gurantee.
a single din is a smaller unit than a dual din. the stock deck in the tC is a dual din, along with decks like the Pioneer 8600MP and other such decks. most decks are single din, including many flip out screen decks. if one were to install a single din in the tC there will be an added compartment under the deck, to make up the space where that the dual din would take up.
as for dual dins, they are 7x4inches in height, and fit the area in the radio area for the tC. many people choose to use dual dins for the tC because they are still able to keep their radio door for this case, since there is no screen that flips out.
hope this helps, and always remember, you get what you pay for

i have a flip up pioneer deck in my car i will have to take some pics as soon as i get a camera mine broke but what they did is just put one of those plastic pieces that fill in gaps and plus they had to take out the scion flip lid. my stero is a touch screen flip up deck i got it out best buy. i like it and it only cost me $1900. i had it in my lancer before i traded it in. if i got the stero when i had the tc i would just get the one that doesnt flip out.
