Front Component Speaker Upgrade: Suggestions, advice???
Okay, so I'm gonna be installin either a Pioneer, Eclipse or Alpine HU and I want to upgrade the front components as well, maybe the rear too. I think I know, but can anyone whose replaced theirs give me sizing and mounting info...thanks!
Also, I'm leaning towards Infinity, Polk and a few others for the component sets...any suggestions or comments would be most appreciated. BTW I'm not trying to break the bank on Boston's or MB q's or anything REAL hi end. thanks

I have the Image Dynamics Chameleon Separates... they install in the stock location with a few lil' fabrication tips and are insanely high quality... They are a little pricey though...
I can step you through the install a bit...

fronts are 6.5 and 3.5/4" either will fit. My Xb had them rivited in.
You will need to drill them out. I used infinty componants to replace
my fronts and infinity coax in the back (51/4"). The infinity componants
use a small 1.5" tweeter so there is no fitting issue less a bracket
to take up the extra space. They stuffed foam under the tweeters in the dash
for better sound quality and to keep the crossover from vibrating.
You may want a professional to do it. Mine was done by car toys
at one of there tent sales for $90 bucks install fee.

I'd say go with elemental design components.... talk to mandos on here... he is a site sponsor on here and a sales rep for ED.... www.edesignaudio.com
Cadence speakers are nice, but not worth the price....there are better sets out there for the same or less $$....like Elemental Design...
PS: I wouldn't even mess with the rear speakers... in real SQ competitions, most competitiors only use one component system up front and that's it.... the less # of drivers(speakers) you have, the better imaging and staging you can achieve...

I don't know about the price of these, nor have I ever heard them, but they were HIGHLY recommended to me by the good people at SPEAKERWORKS. If you've ever heard about this shop, then you know you should listen when they have something to say.

I have 2 sets of CDT CL-61 components in my Xb and they sound great. So good that I bought 2 more sets for my new Tacoma!
Look around and I think you can find them for $149. Best bang for the buck in my opinion
my advice is through out names and read the specs look for something very effecient that puts out about 92-94db@1w1m what are your future plans adding subs? if you need them to go too deep...buy them based on your long term goals not just what your doing today...more dollars isn't always better.....
I just installed Boston Accoustics Z6 and they are awesome!! CDT makes some great component sets as well. I wouldn't worry about rear fill, you won't need it. You want your soundstage to come from the front.
Good luck!

I have subs already...www.sounddomain.com/ride/2083776
I can't afford Boston comp's...I know cdt's are nice, my boys got em in his evo...how are they priced? range?
I was seriously thinking of going with ED, def top o line speakers, but again maybe too pricy. THinking more along lines of alpine, polk, infinity, etc...

i had kicker resolutions in the front and the edi6000s in the rear. they were powered by a 4ch kenwood amp at 70w each. sounded awesome. i'd do the same thing over again without a doubt. if anything, i'd get resolution comps for the rear as well. for the price, the edi comps are awesome. u can find last year's model of the kicker resolution rs6 on ebay for around $180-that's a really good price(http://cgi.ebay.com/KICKER-RS6-RESOL...QQcmdZViewItem). i just wanted to get the new model of them. either way, the resolution speakers are great, and they retail for well over $180.
or you could get the entry CDT's for about $150
