NIce...I got a kid tho so i really can't justify spending more on car speakers than I do on her in a year's time... Wish it was that simple tho...plus I'm lookin for the best bang (sq) for the buck, cuz I'm gonna need to purchase an amp too!

As you can see in my profile i have the edi-6000's. I am EXTREMELY happy with them. I am also running a 12" sub. It honestly sounds freakin awesome.

IMO you can't go wrong with ED

You know, I heard all of the great things about eD here on the board and decided to get a set of ed 6000 comps. I was looking for a decent set for a short time until I upgraded, and I assumed these would be OK. My previous set was an old-school set of Boston Acoustics 6.4 Proseries. I was not impressed at all. The tweeter is *exceptionally* harsh for a silk dome tweeter, even with the tweeter attentuated using the crossover. I would definitely spring for the 6500s as the consensus on those seems to be much better.

I was shooting for the Q series at first but after I found out the retail price is over
$1000 per set is a bit too much. Even on ebay @ half price per set, I still can't justify it with my wife ( I am sure alot of you married guys out there can relate to that ) Therefore I settle for the Premium series which is really crisp clear sound, I have 2 JL 10W6v2 for subs, and have nothing but monster cable for the entire sound system
including 4 gauge monster power cable and circuit breakers because of the high amps the amplifer draws. Having said that, I'm lucky my wife lets me buy that much stuff for last Christmas.

if your idea of tuning is cutting 10 db from 8khz to 16khz, then sure...Straight out of the box they are not smooth at all and there is really only so much you can do to tame the brightness. I think the small size of the tweet hurts its output.
Even eD people bash them on their own forum. It's all a matter of taste, but my Bostons with their titanium tweets were bright and these things burn my ears when fired on-axis. The 6000 midbass is decent, though, if you seal your doors. The top of the basket was a bit wider than my Bostons so I had to enlarge my baffle to fit them.

And the newer lines of MB Quarts are not worth the money at all. You're basically paying for the name instead of SQ with them. There are much better brands out there if you want true hi-fi...Focal, Diamond Audio, etc.

i got some focal components. kinda pricey for a nice ones, but hook up a decent amp, and those things sound really clean and crisp.

Monkey,

I've heard the same from quite a few people, the 6000s are brighter than the 6500s due to the smaller size of the tweeter. I can't say that I've ever heard they were brighter than metal tweets...but definitely brighter than the 6500s.

Unfortunately we don't have a sound board(no retail location right now) and I don't really want to reinstall new comps in my car. I've had the 6500s for over a year and a half...many hundreds of hours on them already, so to install the 6000s and make a comparison after a couple hours of listening may not exactly be fair.

No problem. I was able to EQ them so they were not so bad, they just have a "beaming" problem. They sound fine the way I angled them, but when I turn my head in the car, not so much. Extremely loud, though, so sensitivity isn't a problem.

I still like eD (I've done two installs with eD amps and subs) and will probably get a set of the 6500s and use the 6000 mids for rear fill.

Quick question: How do the eD's fit into the stock mounting location? Was there any fitment issues with the tweeter or speakers, when installing?

You have to cut a baffle to fit in the mounting circle out of 1" MDF because the stock speaker is integrated into the stock plastic baffle. There are some templates floating around here on the board, and on yoursciontc.com there is a guy who sells pre-cut baffles if you have no carpentry skills.

Almost any 6.5" driver will fit in the Scion with no trouble. You will need to drill a hole in the stock tweeter location to mount a new tweeter and you want to make sure you mount it so it is directly behind the tweeter grill on the door panel.

okay, so I just got my CDA-9851 (no hpf/lpf crossovers, grrr.) Now I'm looking to upgrade the front components. I won't spend more than 250. Probably leaning towards infinity's or polks (i know lots of ppl have these). any other suggestions or comments? the clock is ticking, thanks!

Are there any components that will sound good just hooked up to the factory radio, or do they all pretty much require an external amplifier?

Get eDi comps! 6000s are a great value, 6500s (I hear) are even better sounding.

PghtC,
imho, stock (18~20wrms) output will not bring HQ comps alive. I even noticed a difference after bridging my 9.4 to the eDi 6000s. Yah, gains set conservative, volume used reasonably...most of the time!

it appears that you need to be amped up for speakers like that - i might eventually amp up but not right now.
