the 6000s arent that good? ....is that what i gather?
eDi 6000s ($125) are very good. The 6500s ($250) are even better!

What speakers are good quality but under $250/set?
When you are looking at "under $250", one assumes that you want fairly high quality. That probably will need more than stock HU power to bring out their full potential, but will definitely be an upgrade from stock. $20/pair is also under $250 but probably will not satisfy you. Get the 6000s now and run it off the HU. Then when you decide on an amp (eD 9.2?) you won't have to buy better speakers. Look at the long term end result you want and buy for that eventual goal. Cheaper than buying/selling up the ladder!

p.s.
Elemental pricing includes free shipping and transferable 3 year warranty!

I dont see the point of spending more than $175 on components is wasted money for something thats 5% better than another set. Ebay is your friend! I hear people say how evil ebay is but Ive bought quite a few car audio things on ebay and never had a problem with any of it.

Diamond Audio components are nice and some entry level Bostons would work. It all comes down to specifics but for the most part if you are running 20-100watts on them you shouldnt spend much on components. Infinity is nice for the money but the tweets are a bit harsh. Polk's arent super clear but are fair for the price. Bottom line I'd start by reading up on CarAudioForums.com. These questions have been addressed many times. And just take a look around ebay. There are a lot of shops selling their older stock sets that were replaced by new stuff.

i was going to get crutchfields infinity ref. speakers when they were on sale (last years models) and i missed the sale by a week and they said they dont have anymore. whatever - i hung up. I think im just going to replace the front speakers but i dont know enough about speakers to really know what is good. I will be using a 22 watts RMS/50 peak x 4 channel headunit.

Well in that case look at crutchfield again because they usually have the specs and ratings for all the decent speakers so it will give you an idea what would work well at your power. I've even been told that infinity reference components sound good at 22w RMS powered by a head unit but I wouldnt put much faith in that because its fairly underpowered.

Before you spend that kind of $$$ on your component speakers, ask yourself this question: Can you hear any difference on the speaker set you want to buy ?
Is it that noticible ? Is it worth the $$$ ?

I went with MB Quart Premium
because a) I want clear crisp mid and high range sound that I can hear
b) On ebay those are around $250 a set

I bought 2 sets of MB Quarts Premium for front and back push by Eclipse 4 channel amp.

The end result is what I was looking for so I am very happy with it.
I am sure there are other brands out there that are just as good or even better
for cheaper too, but I like high end quality product just my own opinion.

As far as a good component set under $250, I'd say the edi6000s if you're going to initally power them with only a HU... if you're going to have an amp right off the bat, get the 6500s...

other good component brands: CDT, Focal, Diamond Audio, MBQ(although need EQ'ing IMO)

The Stock Scion Pioneer HU says it's 40x4, but that's the MAX output.... you'd be lucky to get 17RMS watts per channel from it.... same with most aftermarket HU's only they'll generally give you a good RMS figure (around 22)

personally, I wouldn't get any infinity, alpine, or polk components cause you can have far better with the same $$$....

FromICIX forum:
- The 6000's are pretty damn efficient. haven't cranked it in car yet, but for windows up driving, i don't think an external amp is needed. They get impressively loud just running off the h/u.
http://www.icixsound.com/vb/showthread.php?t=21215

Sounds like they are fine off HU power and can go up from there. eD recommends a 9.2 amp=100wrms/side. I am running 150 per, off a bridged 9.4, conservatively.

Go eDi!
