Front door speakers
Was wondering, what is the deepest speaker that anyone has been able to fit in the front tC doors? As in, if you think you've got some tall component woofers in your doors, let's hear about it.
I'm struggling right now with some Resonant Engineering XXX6.5" for the front doors, which need a little under 3.5" in mounting depth (which is most likely not going to work).
Also, has anyone actually gone as far as modifying the door panel to fit taller/larger speakers (no, I don't mean just shaving down the little plastic coupling piece on the inside of the door panel, I mean really cutting the door panel and having an aftermarket grill show).

yeah, the Eu-700 midbass woofer... as stated, 3.72" depth.. used a 3/4" baffle with a 3/4" spacer ring... worked well... only modification to the panel was the removal of that "tunneling" ring on the backside....
here are some pics of my DLS Component system in the factory location. Had to use a speaker ring adapter to be able to mount it which bumped the speaker out about 3/8". Have no trouble with getting panel back on or window going up and down. The mounting depth on these were 2 1/2".
here are the factory speakers

here is the mounting ring we had to use, it is actually for a chevy cavalier but it is all we had on hand and it worked perfectly.

here is the factory tweeter mounts with the factory tweeter removed

here is the factory tweeter mounts reinstalled with the new DLS tweeters

here is the low and high pass crossovers installed on the door

and here is the finished/installed DLS B6A 6 1/2" component system

Hope this helps you out a little.

I already made those exact baffles actually, I basically did everything as stated in that guide except for dremeling out the plastic guide on the back of the panel.
I wanted to see if it at least looked feasible prior to me cutting things up, and I figured if the door panel couldnt get back on with just the baffle and spacer (no speaker even screwed in), then dremeling out that area wasn't going to make enough of a difference. Maybe I'll go ahead and go for it anyway.
Either way, thanks a lot for the info guys. At least I know it's possible!
