Default Garmin GPS Placement?

I live in CA and down here it is illegal to use those windshield mounted suction cups for portable GPS systems. That, and I think they look tacky to begin with.

I was looking around the other day in my interior for a place to put a portable GPS. I am looking at a Garmin 4.3 inch widescreen one, and the only spot I can see that may fit the unit perfectly is that hole in the console just below the temperature gauges.

Anyone know from experience if it would fit there? Not sure where else I would put one of these portable GPS devices and at the same time have it somewhat inconspicuous.

I put mine there. Wasnt a garmin....magellen or how ever it is spelled. Might have been the 4.3 screen. Not sure though. It broke and now im looking for a new one. But I put cds there and rested the gps unit against them I beleive. Fit in ok. Just sometimes when I took a turn too hard, hit the brakes too hard, or gave it some gas it would slide out because it really wasnt in there very well. If you could get it in there and stay put that would be key. I would say that would work out very well. GL

i was lucky enough to have the ability to take apart the suction cup mount...the suction cup portion came right off. the rest of the arm was the perfect size to fit under my headunit.

i used a little electrial tape to wrap around the arm inorder to get a little bit more grip.
