Default Has anyone upgraded the tC's alternator yet?

Well, our alternators are putting out 1200 watts, which means that the guys with 800 rms setups are either being robbed of potential power, having their car die a lot, or or their alternator is goign to fry shortly. Has anyone upgraded their alternator yet? I believe I read about summit racing's alternator that is rated at 150 amps (as opposed to our ~80 amp rating amp).

Has anyone upgraded yet? Experience?

i started a thread for High Output Alternators for the xA/xB 1.5L
I found a company that could custom make 180A at idle and stay cool doing it--longer life than rewound
the problem with everyone was the price
mind you, i did a whole lot of shopping around
and these guys wanted to do this to kick start this market and make new things available that are not now

i checked out Ohio generator which is a big custom alternator shop. I was told that the alternator that we have uses flat wire instead of round like most others so they didnt have an upgrade available at the time. I definetely need to look into an upgrade if its possible since i'll be pulling at least 160 amps with my system.

It's good to see others are aware of this "problem" and are looking for viable uprades. Keep us updated on the upgrading brush possibility or other manufacturers looking to make bigger alternators.

ah... ok.. finally at the current bottom of this thread... confirmed what I was thinking this thread was about.... higher output alternators for those that have high power demand audio/video systems.
