so how long does your battery last (on average of course) when watching a movie or playing a game system on your double din unit with your engine off? this is assuming your not blasting the sounds.

i've only ran a dvd in my d3 for about half an hour. also, i've run the radio with the screen off for about 2 hours, lol and had no problems with the car starting. idk, im just scared to watch a whole movie and not have my car be able to start.

also, if the stock battery is not good for this, what battery do you recommend to increase the longevity of being able to watch movies/play games with the engine off?

 

We watched a full movie on my friends d3 once. So I at least know its possible but I think it also depends on if the battery is still fresh or if its on it last legs type of thing. Thats what my friend said anyway.

 

Total discharge time will all depend on the age/strength of your battery. Logically, an '07s will probably last a bit longer than an '05s.

 

Check the watts that the unit(s) are drawing and divide that by 600 and that should be the hours it should play with a good battery. 600 = 12volts x 50 amphours

 

i went 3 hours on my yellowtop the other day. this was with my stereo at 3/4 max volume with my avic d2 + 1800 watts

 

get a volt meter if you concerned about it. i have 3, one directly off the battery, one inside of the car on my gauge pillar, and both of my caps in the back have them.

every single gauge reads a different voltage, but that is expceted because of voltage drop, and different loads (especially with the caps)

I get a major voltage drop with my music blasting after about 3 mins, so i keep my car runnin.

yup,if you plan on going LONG periods 3 hours +,then get a yellow top.I say a stock battery should take a good 2 hours at mid volume with enough to start up.

cool thanks for your experience and info. i was afraid my car won't start if i leave it playing for about an hour. my unit itself reads voltage, and my turbo timer reads voltage also.

i know voltage doesn't mean as much as amperage, but what kind of voltage readings should it be over with the car off? in the morning, at the unit, it read 12.8 and slowly dropped to 12.6 over a few minutes.

 

12.5+ is optimal. Lowest mine has gone is 10.9. Me and some friends were entertaining the high school parking lot.

 

i could wire them to run at 1ohm, but i dont have them wired like that. and im only using 1/3rd of the power my amps can put out because of how i have them wired. all id have to do is pull the subs out of the enclosure, re-wire the speaker wire, and be done. but i wont do it, no need for it

 

Dead battery is about 10.3 volts - when you get down to about 11 volts no load I would think about starting it up. Also you don't want to leave it for any length of time run down or else it will shorten the battery life so charge it back up fully with either a long drive or AC powered charger made to charge yellow tops or a smart charger for you stock battery. It can take hours to fully charge even while driving. Running it down a few times really low will kill the battery in a very short time - as little as a year.
