I find that it distorts easily with bass on 1 or zero. I like the stock head unit but i think im going to upgrade the speakers.

Speakers sound suprisingly good with an aftermaket deck. I tried them out for a few while in the process of installing lots of audio gear. I was shocked how much better they sound than with the crappy stock headunit.

The headunit does make a big difference. I have the new Alpine IVA-W200 with the ipod hook up and it's like day and night. The stock speakers sound alright but I can't stand them already....

with different opinions on stock speakers, your best bet is to stay active in regional forums and ask if you can check out other local tCs with stock speaker/aftermarket HU.

in the end its all up to your ears if your the type who wants to go deaf or just want something alrite while cruising down the highway

I just replaced my HU with a new Alpine HU and what a difference! My iPod sounds SO MUCH better then before. (I used to have volume unevenness on the iPod with the stock HU, not anymore with the new HU.) I had to compliment my new HU with a new Sub as well. I picked up an 8" Powered Sub by Audiobahn and it rocks! Plenty of bass for me! About the stock speakers: the fronts are very good, definitely change out the rears though.

No -- best "bang for buck" upgrade would be to throw a set of comps up front. Will give you really nice sound until you decide to swap out that HU

I would think that its the higher rms power that your feeding to the stock speakers which are making them sound better.

Im currently trying to formulate a plan to use the stock hu to just give signal to an amp thatll power some elemental design speakers.

Im sure the stock hu will give u decent signal.

The only way I would ever change from the ipod HU is if I went to the navigation lcd units...other than that the stock hu offers better integration at a better price.

Id rather take the 300$ for a new head unit and the hundred dollars it takes to get them ipod compatible/steering wheel control compatible and put that in speakers/amps.

I think its pretty nice, especially after you turn the SSP into xA mode.

i think the stock system is horrible, but i also think scion may have known that most people were going to get rid of it anyway, so they didn't spend too much time on it.

i replaced every speaker and the HU with a 65W RMS unit and added two 10'' subs and the system sounds beautiful.

Are there any popular decks that dont need extra parts to use the stock steering wheel mounted controls?

I really wanted a pioneer deh6800 but after looking at the installation manual for the adapter (http://www.cardomain.com/item/PERPESWIX ), I don't want to deal with it
