I cant believe my installer did this!!!
I had my system installed this weekend.
HU, Amp, Sub, 2-way componets and 2-way coaxials. Sounds good, BUT...
I took my tC in for an oil change this morning and when they called when it was ready, they told me the tech found a problem that needs addressed ASAP...whoever installed my amp actually drilled a hole thru the floorboard by the left front wheel, and then back up into the interior to run the power cord for the amp. So now I got this cord just lating on rough jagged edges where they drilled, which it wont be long until it cuts thru and well....id hate to imagine what would happen. I called the installer about it and he tells me thats the only way it could be done because of the firewall. I told the tech and he looked at me funny and showed me the wire harness which they couldve easily used.
So now I have to take it their after work to have them rewire it. I imagine theyre going to try and double talk me so that they dont admit being wrong.
Has anyone else used the wire harness to run their amp? Just in case they try and tell me its not possible.
Not only that, theyre going to have to patch up that hole.
Until then, i kinda jammed eletrical tape in their around the wire to get it off those jagged edges.
What a pain in the butt

THAT IS BS!!!!
There's a bundle of wires that come in straight behind your steering wheel. You can cut through the rubber, VERY CAREFULLY, and run your wire through there. I've got 0AWG coming into my car through there, it's perfectly feasible.
This is why I am my own installer.

Yeah, the wiring harness for the dash stuff etc, there are multiple places on the Tc to run the wire through, I ran mine through the grommet on the passenger side which has all the wires for the ecu, was pretty simple and any decent installer would know how to do this! For them to just drill a hole and not install a grommet is very unprofessional, may I ask where you took your car to get the work done?

Have fun
Im also going to post over in the scion northeast section for people to stay away from them.
if they re -wire it correctly for free, i dont think i would do anything about it. If they dont do this for you, I would file a report with the BBB, and try to have them solve your problem for you.
Yup they should definitely fix their crappy wiring. Make sure you tell them to plug the hole they drilled too. The tech is also wrong to suggest that you can use the existing harness to power your amp as most amps require a 2-8 guage wire connected directly to the battery.
There are better places for them to have run the wire. But even if they are too lazy to try and use an existing hole/harness, like English said, they should have at least used a rubber grommet in the hole they drilled! That is a no-brainer basic that any highschool kid should know, not to mention a "professional" installer.

Has anyone else used the wire harness to run their amp?', so it sounds like he was talking about splicing into the existing stereo harness.

Sounds like a fairly typical "fly by night" install. It would work OK for a while, but eventually it will fail due to the sharp edge. If you're lucky, it will simply blow a fuse. If you're unlucky, your car will burn to the ground.
If you're planning on having an install done. always look at installations in progress. If you see raw holes, sloppy wiring, Scotchlock connectors, etc., run to the nearest exit.
I've heard of a lot of nighmares relating to installations. Such things as holes drilled in heater cores and holes drilled in fuel tanks (thankfully it was a Diesel) leap to mind. If you can read and follow instructions and use simple tools, it is often better to do the installation yourself. You have plenty of time and aren't under pressure to get on to the next car whose owner is anxiously waiting.
Remember, measure twice, cut once!
