What's wrong with the amp? I have been using Profile amps since I was in high school and haven't had a problem yet. I have noticed when I have my iPod charging I get interference and engine whine. I installed a choke on the end of my patch cable at the jack end and it cut down on the whine considerably. Are you running the stock head unit?

Sorry guys, I was at work.

I am running the stock HU, yes.
The line-out converters that I have are two 2-channel converters from circuit city. I have a SVEN4 4-channel line-out sitting in my house, I could throw that in if it would help, otherwise i'd save myself the money and just return the SVEN4.

I will try putting in RCAs if that will help. These are the ones that I have in there now, and there is no sense in denying the fact that they are not top quality:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWN%3AIT&rd=1
(i know that only comes with 1 RCA, I bought a 2nd of the exact same)

The cables are running on seperate sides of the car.

I have ground loop isolators on the front channels. I will add one to the rear channels as well, and recheck the ground - but all of that will be tomorrow when I have time to mess around with it! (my one day off)

Also, I have a sirius system in my car. The starmate replay st2. I have a shielded mini to mini wire running from it to the aux port in the center console. I put that there at the exact same time as I was installing the speakers/amp. My first instinct was that THAT causes interference, so I unplugged it from the aux adapter in the car and the whine didn't stop. I hope that i'm not overlooking something here!

Thanks for all of the suggestions and I will be sure to let you all know how it goes and hopefully between all of these solutions it will be solved. I am a musician and have very sensitive ears, so even with the stock radio at 50, I still hear it.

Guys, I just tested the car. I unplugged my sirius radio from my aux in the center console and turned it off. I disconnected ALL of the RCAs on the amp, turned off the amp and the HU, and STILL got the whine, any advice or tips?

Could it be the spark plug wires by chance?

Well, it's definately not coming from the spark plug wires...

Do your amps come on with the head unit or are they powered constantly? Do me a favor with the ignition in the on position(engine not running) and the head unit off, check to see if the red led strip on the top of the amp is on. Am I correct in assuming you only have a whine when the engine is running?

It is mounted onto the back of the seat, or rather the panel on the back of the rear seat. There are 4 screws that hold it in place on all 4 corners. Here is a pic:

Maybe changing out the HU could solve the problem?

Just to clarify - the head unit turns on and off the amp. The whine still comes whether the HU is on or off, which means when the amp is on or off.

It ONLY happens with the engine running. It doesn't happen when the engine is off. The amp seems to be turning on and off as it should.

MAJOR CORRECTION: because I am an idiot, I did not see the amplifier light until now (it was behind some wires), I did not catch this:

The amp is on whenever the car is ON or the engine off but the ignition is in the ON position. The amp is on whether the HU is on or off! Dang!

Right, with the radio on, the amp is always on. With the radio off, the amp is always on unless the key is out of the ignition. When the engine is running OR the key is in the on position with the engine off, the amp is on. To clarify, the only time its off is when the key is in any position less than the on position.

I am powering 4 speakers - polk db6500 in the front and polk db650 in the rear. Thats it!

well one thing that I see is that the speaker wires and power cable seem to run down the same side. Could be some of the problem. Speaker wire is unsheilded so it will pick up interference easily. I'm a big fan of this stuff. http://www.streetwires.com/products/...peakerWire.cfm
It is a lot easier to run than all that speaker wire. It's available through most Streetwires retailers and usually goes for about $1 a foot.
