Default i need garage1217's help

ok a read how to change the needle color, seems easy and i think i can do that on my own, but for the gauges, do you have to do led work, or can i just a differant color vinyl, on the back of it, also how do i get the color to change when the needle goes up.

To my understanding, you cannot just add film to the current amber LED's, it would come out all funky colored. To use the film that garage sells, you need to use white backlights to achieve the proper color effect desired.

So in short, I'm 90% sure the answer is no if you want a cluster that isn't dim and ugly colored.

Sorry dude.

nope, stock leds are all amber, you will have to swap them.. its totally worth it, you can change all the leds white and if you decide to go to different color aftersometime you can just put colored film at the back

Looks like you got it Back with white leds, use translucent vinyl to make the color changes. Paint needles whatever color you want!

Yep, mailing it in is no issue. Jeremy (garage1217) is a great option, as is squallLHeart and me of course None of us are really close to you, but I get them shipped to me all the time. Turnaround is quick, so it isnt like you are without your car super long. And technically you can still drive it... legally not so great to be without gauges

And regarding the vinyl..... at some point, you many read that vinyl is a crappy way to go about it (and believe it or not.. the guy that started that is still in business.. although banned from two forums.. ).

For a 1 color swap, or if I am doing color chaning, backlit needles for color changing, etc, you will be doing it all with LEDs. However, for having the parts of the gauge face different colors, like having the hash marks one color and the rest a different color, vinyl is the only practical option and is a great way to do it. For those that bash it, that is exactly how the stock redline and temp markings are made. Done correctly it comes out great.

Your dealer no... most custom shops no. I recommend someone with an electronics background (that doesnt include stereo installers 99% of the time). The questions to ask if you are paying someone else to do the work are:

1) Have you worked with surface mount electronics before?
2) If something breaks, are you able to troubleshoot and fix the issue, or are you just following the instructions online for the install?

If number 2 comes back as a no, then you may as well do the work yourself. If you pay someone for it, be sure they have experience (and preferably doing work on this particular item) and that they can fix it if they break it. That is what you should get if you are paying for the labor. But if the person has an electronics background and has done this type of work before, then you should be good to go.

100% in agreement with engifineer. Only people at this time that I know are good enough to do the install right and have enough experience are Engifineer, Squall and myself. Take your pic and you will be taken care of very very well and love the work that was completed

Just to give you an idea, 10% of my work now is repair work from people that thought they could, and got in over there head...
20% is from people that had a buddy that said "no problem, I can do that" and could not!
The rest is just myself doing the work.

Haha way down from the 50% repair work I was doing when another certain swapper was screwing everyones stuff up daily

I am pretty sure all of the swappers I listed stand by there work 110% and will go to any length to take care of a customer. Doing volume work, we all run into small issues every now and again, but we make darn sure we take care of a customer if an issue is to happen, we know how to fix an issue and will always leave you satisfied.
