Right now my Amp is connected directly to the battery. I'd like to get an Inline fuse for it ASAP. The manual says to get a 50 AMP inline fuse but the highest I could find is a 25 amp one. Is 50 amps really necessary or will 25 be enough. Also what kind of inline fuse should I get?
you really should of put the fuse in before but....
You are fusing the wire not the amp.
What gauge is the wire? 50 amp sounds like maybe 10ga wire. Find an AGU fise and fuse holder (glass fuse)
Im pretty sure radio shack has em. I know wal mart has them but I have had them melt on me.
Best choice would be to go to your local shop and get one.
Bout $50 for both.
I wouldnt go cheap on this

50A is not enough. A shop like Circuit City or Best Buy would be able to sell you a 70-80A fuse and fuse holder.
ALWAYS FUSE YOUR STUFF!!! AMPS ARE NOT CHEAP AND FIRES SUCK!!!

Its a 400 Watt amp. The manual says 50 amp. my friend is running 30 or 40 amps with the same amp and hasn't had it blow yet. I asked the guy in Circuit City about it and he said you don't really have to fuse it for a 400watt amp which I'm gona do anyway. Better safe then sorry. The wire is 10 guage. So the fuse and the fuse holder I can have for 50 bucks? Sounds pretty expensive just for a Fuse holder and fuse.
That guy was wrong. You need to fuse every wire hooked up to the battery. You will be fine with a 50 amp fuse. Buy a AGU fuse holder Circuit City or similar place will have them and put a 60 amp fuse in it and be done with it. The size of your amp does not effect the fuse size because it is designed to protect the wire from fire.
i wouldn't just do it asap i would go unhook it now. if you are still reading this you have waited too long. I'm a firefighter and i see cars burn up all the time when people put new stereo's in. you also need to put it within a few inches of the battery you don't want to put it in the back of the car because it "looks cool" because 1.) it probably doesn't look cool. and 2.) if the coating wears away at any point before the fuse and touches ground it WILL catch fire. if you question this go lay something metal across the neg and pos posts of a car battery and it will turn bright orange and melt (don't really do it take my word for it)

Ok its fused. I couldn't find any AGU fuse holders or anything high amp like that so I wound up getting an ATC fuse holder. I've got a 30 amp fuse in it right now, If it blows it blows oh well. I don't bump my music too loud so I think it should be fine for now. Anything wrong with running a Lower amp fuse then suggested, besides it blowing easily?
So far the fuse is holding up fine. Also, Correct me if I'm wrong. But a 400 watt amp shouldn't go above 34 amps should it? I'm basing this on a years worth of physics so It's prolly wrong but 400/12 = 33.333 So the 30 Amp fuse should only blow when I have it all the way up no?

if you are talking max power then you are correct with the car off. if the 400w is RMS power then it will pull more then that. You should be fine with the 30A fuse the size doesn't matter unless you are blowing it. And think now you don't have to worry about your car burning.
