Default Interior LEDS question

I just installed My interior LEDS in blue, and i was wondering why the colors under the dash are brighter than the colors in the cup holders. the blue under the dash is much more brighter than the blue in the cup holder. is this normal? or are they supposed to be both the same blue contrast. thanks guys

Are the blues different hues?

If not, then it is because there is only one led in the cupholder instead of an led bar like in the footwell.

how do you like the leds? sounds like you got the factory ones, and i think they're going for $250. some guy showed me his that were installed inside his tC. to be honest, i don't think it looked that great, not for 250 anyways. his install was from port so i was assuming a nice clean installation. but instead i saw some wires hanging out and some cheap zip tie holding the cheap plastic rods of the panel. hopefully it'll look better at night time when actually lit up. he said he loves it.

well, i hope it won't be a disappointment when i get mine when my car gets here.

is there anyway to hide the led rod???

Get you something to block it from view. Get a long strip of plastic or something similar to "aim" the light and block it from eyesight. I don't know how you will attach it tho.

So basically, I don't think this helps at all. Oh well.

this would be a question that could best be answered by the man we call: RANDODE(aka Randy)

E-mail him at randode@randode.com or visit the desert & salt region forum and look around for him.

They are a bit overpriced, but there are some advantages. First the plastic rods arent "cheap", that is a good design for them. The lights work by having 4 leds shining into the end of a peice of plexiglass rod. The rod works to diffuse the light and has a reflector on the top portion. Neons /cathodes are brighter and cheaper.... and break when someones foot hits them hard enough, then you have no light and broken glass everywhere The rods dont break. You can kick the hell out of them without worry. I think for the location they are in the plastic rods are a better idea. The issue is that the dealer charges that much money for them. So the design is better IMO but the price is exaggerated. They put out plenty of light as well, they light the entire floorboard, at least the blues ones do. If you can get a huge deal on them during the sell, then they arent bad. But they do need to be mounted a little differently. Just my .02

^^ I believe they are the same wavelength (470nm), but the dimness caused by the different lens on the cupholder units makes them look different. If you place a bottle of water in there you can see the color better. You will find blues most predominately in the 470nm version and fewer that are rated for 450nm and 460nm, so they are most likely the more common 470nm "standard" blue LED.

ill post pictures as soon as i can. its a little weird because the leds under the dash are really bright blue and i love them, but i only wish that same color was inside the cupholders. and yeah i tried that water bottle thing and it looks perfect! if only it was the same color as the leds under the dash

so from the sounds of it you guys also spent the outragous 250 for leds. that makes me feel alittle better. i mean damn, 250 for some produck that isn't nearly half that cost!

i'm also glad to hear that someone stated above the led system their installing aren't cheap/crappy and the rods are made of strongfiberglass and tolerable to abuse.

i hope i'll enjoy the factory installed leds that cost me 250 next week. thanks for the info...

sounds like it doesn't look too bad with the rods visible.?

I've thought about it. not for mine since everything is blue, but the end cap just slides off, so if you could get the LEDs out and put new ones in it wouldnt be to hard. Even better, you could mix colors if you wanted something like purple.

^^ Hey, you gotta come show me the progress on that system anyway!

To me they look a little different , but in the sense that the view angle is different and they use a different lens so they dont look as bright.. so that is why I think they look different. Reason being that if you place a bottle of water in there so you can see them better the color looks the same (at least to me). I will look at them closer to see if I notice a difference..... great, now you'll have me looking at them all the time

Well, one of the 10 to 20 times I pulled the center console out....

Actually I couldn't get them turned on...then realized that the black/black stripe and black/white were backwards...so popped the center console out, got them lit up, and even w/o the lens they aren't the same as like a standard blue LED you'd get from radio shack.

Plus, after doing the conversion on everything...the two colors totally clashed. Kinda like the standard high beam blue vs. the redone blues...just a l.ittle purpler.
