ipod iphone proposed extension and charge on stock head unit
So I've been thinking that I'm sick of using the aux input with a regular stereo male to male because it doesn't sound as good, and not being able to charge my iPhone 3GS on the stock iPod connector. Soooo....I'm thinking about trying to rig up a cable that will plug directly into the stock connector and your iPhone or iPod that no longer charges but has the necessary added components to make the charging work again. I know that Griffin and Scosche make these accessories already but they're basically just a bridge and they don't extend the cable and I'd like an extra bit of length on mine anyway.
I'm wondering if anyone else would be interested in these. I haven't decided for sure what I'm going to do or what it would cost but I'm sure it would be cheaper in bulk. Would anyone else be interested in buying one of these? What would people really be interested in? I basically would be taking a female dock connector to a male dock connector cable and adding the components inline so it will charge. I'm going to try to get some kind of a tube to contain the components so it won't look like complete garbage but I'm a DIYer and I'm more worried about it burning out my electronics rather than the pretty case I get it. Any feedback is appreciated.

so essentially you would be making a scosche passport and a 30 pin dock extension connector into one?
wouldn't it be easier if you just bought it, connected it and tape it?
just buy
http://cgi.ebay.com/iPhone-iPod-30-P...item3effb578e7
and buy this also
http://cgi.ebay.com/Scosche-iPhone-3...item5add0276db
so you would have ipod cable from your car, then your scosche passport and them the extension cable. this way you would have the charging capability for iphone 3g and you cant see the scosche passport because it is in line with the ipod cable.

Yeah that does definitely seem the easiest way. I can't imagine the materials being much less than 20$ and certainly with time factored in it wouldn't be. I believe my 3GS would be able to charge with that has anyone verified it would work with the iPhone 4 also? Thanks for the ebay links btw.
I have one also and it doesn't charge. We are talking about having it charge, if you can figure out which pins are the power pins you should be able to splice in a power plug and connect it in the center console. Just need to figure out which pins those are.
