factory iPod radio is all plug n' play... only thing is extra cables you need to hook up and route.. not difficult.
if you're looking for sound, the stock speakers work very well.. however to get the most out of it, an aftermarket headunit is the direction to go towards.
and there's already input on the stock scion radio... it's the "aux" plug in the armrest.

yes i was reading about the aux input but i do not want to use the ipod to control the music. the radio in my last car was an alpinw with the ipod cable and it was the same as the stock tc ones where you have to scroll through the whole list. that wasnt that big a deal for me cause i just made diffetrent playlist everyday. i just want to be able to utilize the steering wheel audio controls however i dont have the mula for the eclipse radio's with the screens nor do i like the single din ones. and my alpine does not have a remote so i can get the pac controller.. so i am screwed from almost every angle.
hah, just found out that my radio has the accessory for steering wheel controls. its a alpine cda 9856..
so now i got to get one of those pac/ soundgate adaptors. has anyone had any experience with these??? pros cons??
thanks

Yeah, I've got one. I have the pac-swi-x though. It's great. Wiring it in and programing it is the hardest thing about it. I programed it so that the "function" button on the wheel, the one that normaly changes from radio to cd to whatever, is a mute button instead. Kind of a backup for a backup for a kill switch. Gotta love it. The only thing I don't like about it is that it takes a second for the controller to recognize that a button has been hit. That's ok though. O, and I also don't like that fact that I don't even use it because I always have the remote in my hand.
The whole thing will fit behind the new headunit. I've worked on alot of movile a/v setups, and the tc has a TON of room behind the radio compared to other cars. There will be pleanty of room. Just make sure it doesn't rattle or bump up against anything. Don't want to have to go back there to fix it!

and how about the radio door??? will that still close? or will it only close if i have the face plate off???
thanks again guys
For my head unit (kenwood mp4011) I had to do a little creative thinking. I managed to fit it in there with minimal adjustment. The adjustment had nothing to do with the steering wheel interface though.
but you were able to get the cover to shut?? did you have to take the face plate off to get it to shut??
my alpine is a flip down one. so i can really put it any further back in the dash kit or i wont be able to get it off.

I don't have any problems with it. I can close it with the faceplate on without problems. I've been told that people have problems with the flip screens for dvd players and gps navigation. They have to take the cover completely off. But that's another issue.
