JL W6's in a ProWedge box:Is it cool if I mount an amp to the box?
I'm extremely tight on space in my trunk right now, I have a huge multi-channel amp that was going to be for my components which I was thinking of mounting under the trunkbed, but for my JL W6's, I was probably going to use two medium-sized amps for each sub. If you guys know what the Prowedge box is, it's pretty damn solid and and very heavy. Is it cool if I mount at least one amp to the box? I know it isn't encouraged, but I feel like this box might be sturdy enough.
This is the box, but for 2 12's.

I also have 2 12w6v2 but with a custom box, i used to have the amp mounted on the back of my sub, i dont know if this is the reason but sometimes the amp would shut off while the music is playing. then i decided to take the amp off and set it between the box and the back seat and it never shut off again... (My amp is JL 1000/1) and i have a tC.
The only reason I would advise against not doing this is because there is no ventilation between the sub box and the back of your seat, where you would likely mount your amps. If you did it on top, people would be able to peek in and see the amp (not good either). If you could do it on the side, that could work, but won't be the cleanest setup either.
Lol, well I have 5% pitch black tints on my car so I'm fairly certain no one would see in to the amp. Also, my subs are facing inside the car as opposed to out, but if I was going to put it on the box I'd probably turn it around.
i have 2 12 inch kickers in a ported box with a cheap amp mounted to the back of my box and ive never had any problems with it overheating or cutting off or anything and it hits hard. The subs are facing the hatch so you cant see the amp unless you look over the box, but i have a cover over everything anyways.
Never mount amps to sub boxes ever. Unless the box was built with extensive bracing on the inside its not recommended. Go to any car audio forum and they will advise the same. Yeah nothing might not happen for a few months or a year or so, but guaranteed the vibration is bound to shake loose some internals.
Imagine putting a VCR on top of the washer on spin cycle. Same concept. That and another reason is it makes it so much easier for thieves to smash and grab the entire box WITH the amp attached it as opposed to having the amp mounted to the back of rear seat
