Default Just bought 07 tC, steering wheel audio buttons don't work please help

As the title says, nothing happens when i push my steering wheel buttons. Also, from what I have noticed in my reading, the buttons are supposed to be lit up as well, but in my case they are not. I tried holding mode, tried mashing mode repeatedly read the manual and audio manual cover to cover, browsed the web for hours and hours; yet I cannot find anything about what to do if the buttons don't work. There are some exposed speaker wires in the back seat so i'm gonna guess the previous owner did something with some aftermarket audio and disabled them somehow. I also wondered if it might be a fuse. However everything else about the stock HU and the cabin electronics work just fine. I tried looking at the wiring diagram for the audio system and my head hurt after a few minutes. I'm taking electrical circuits in college this semester (just started) so maybe i'll be able to make sense of those diagrams soon. In the meantime if there are any out there who may offer some suggestion on how to troubleshoot the cause of the problem please reply. Thanks so much guys and gals!

If its an aftermarket hu the lights wont work (mine don't atleast) and I THINK that harness for the steering wheel controls is seperate from the other normal ones on the stock hu. So maybe last owner didn't hook up all the plugs in the back?... I may be wrong but I seem to remember tucking a plug away behind my hu because I didn't want to screw with the steering wheel control adapter...

I do have the stock HU installed in the car tho. Or are you saying maybe he had aftermarket installed and then reinstalled stock before selling, and perhaps didn't hook it up right. I'm willing to check that out but I don't know where to begin when it comes to taking off the panel to get to the wires. Any suggestions would be helpful.

he probably forgot to plug the connector for the steering wheel controls, look in the back for any connector that's not plug in. it's probabbly 4 -5 connector to the stock HU, 1 for entena, 2 aux in in your arm rest cabin, 3 your main power/speaker plug, 4th your steering control plug. it's really easy fix once you have the center console removed, all conectors are different so you can't mix it up. also I don't remember seeing those button ever lit on my 07! fix me if i'm wrong, I been running after market DD HU for a long time.
