Default Kenwood HU. Volume getting lower as time goes on???

'06 Tc with a Kenwood DDX7017 that I had installed after I purchased the car. It was great, and louder (it seemed) than the factory radio.

Recently though, I noticed I have been turning the volume higher and higher to obtain the same amount of "apparent" loudness that I remember hearing.

Example: volume at 13-15 would be average while a volume of 18 would be a bit louder, and maybe i'd go as high as 21-23 if i really wanted to "crank it".

Now, I would say anything less than 18 seems very low, and I have to put the volume up to about 30 to make it sound as loud as it did when i first got it.

1. no, my ears aren't going bad. I am young, and so are my ears.
2. I have not made any changes at all to my car that would potentially change anything associated with the radio
3. I only have about 5 mix cds that I shuffle through, so I know its not just different music being recorded at different volumes.

Could this be an indication that something is wrong with the radio? overheating and causing it to decrease the volume in order to cool itself off?

mine has done the same thing, I have the DDX-6019 I use to keep it at 18 as well, I feel your pain. I thought it might be me. I guess it is a Kenwood thing.

possibly its the source? My cd player has a bit less volume than the ipod, and the XM is crap, the dvd player is the same way.

if you switch to fm/xm/ipod does the volume drop or raise?

That happens to me in my Panasonic HU...

My problem is that I easily adjust to the volume everytime and I thought that my volume is suddenly dropping, but everytime my friend goes with me and he doesn't want to take his car, he said that am I crazy cranking the volume louder and louder every week... ( I may have to go to the doctor and get my ear drums checked though)
