Default Lights Flickering

I just currently put an amplifier (500 watts rms at 4 ohms) and a 10 JLw6 and my lights are constantly being sapped for power from them and they go dim when really bassy parts hit...
I am new to sound systems and I didnt know exactly what to search for so anyone I am sure anyone who knows anything about sound systems know how to fix it so your help would be nice

make sure the connections for the amplifier wires are good.

Do the big three-

Capacitors generally limit your voltage and simply provide another battery for the alternator to charge. Big Three will generously reduce if not eliminate his problem.

not always the problem solver there. Pretty much a band-aid in car audio.

uhmm... you guys do realize what a cap is right?

sheesh.... get the cap and you'll be fine. it'll prevent light flickering.

but more audio and a battery and the big 3 is a must as well.

like everyone said...

temporarily = get a cap. im running 400w with no problems in lighting

long run = do the big 3.

im not running as much power as everyone else, so doing the big three isnt that much of a concern for me, once it gets dim then ill do it.

squall, the capacitor works great for one particular moment in time. after that it has to recharge. to do this, it draws away from the power that should be going to the amplifier and accessories. regular music has alot of bass drops that suck power from the cars electrical system. the capacitor will work for the first one, but then will have to be constantly recharaging after that because the bass hits so often. Because of this, capacitors aren't a great choice for dimming problems. as zebman said, it's just another thing for the alternator and battery to send power to which wont help the dimming at all. don't get me wrong, capacitors are great items in sound off competitions where less than a second of sound is played by the sound system.

i stand by the big three being done first

Like everyone else has already said, the big 3 should solve your problems. I am running 1500 watts daily and my dimming is minimal. All I have done is big 3 and an Optima yellowtop.
