Default Looking to run an idea past anyone with electrical knowledge

Here is the problem:
the new iPods run on a 5v power system and the Scions run on the old 12v setup. So they will play, but not charge.

The solution:
is there any way to "integrate" a voltage reducer or something that could retard the voltage down by 7v into an iPod connector?

I was thinking of stripping the cable wrap, cutting the power line, and soldering in a voltage reducer if any type of thing like that is out there for purchase. Maybe at a place like radio shack perhaps?

Any input would be appreciated.

possibly a resistor or step down transformer. but finding the right one might be hard. i know u can buy a adaptor at apple that will let it charge for you as well.

I have the Scosche adapter. It picks up engine whine, and isn't a very good connection. It gets the job done, but also doesnt look very clean.

A buddy of mine just sent me this link.

http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=2062599

So the part is found, I just need to find the way to get it integrated.

Time to start looking for the electrical engineers on the forum.

Your problem is not that apple changed from 12v to 5v, they switched it from Firewire to USB interface which has an entirely different pinout. If someone happens to have to pinout for an old gen vs new gen ipod, I may be able to whip something up.
