Haven't figured it out but think I'll just extend the wires and throw it in for now till I get an aftermarket HU. I'll let you know if I need help.

Stock HU will be out after a couple months (have other things have to do to car). I'm keeping the radio cuz I like my home radio station and the DJ's (103.1 the buzz). I've been listening to it since they first aired when I was a teenager and my favorite dj has been there since then too (Jason Davis). I can't see not listening to them ever again.

-for amp installs youtube can help
-also google there are a ton of howto's
-just auxout to rca to amps and sound (most amps have rca outs if you have multiple amps)

-i don't want to suggest usb/fm only because that increases cost (which in my setup tried to reduce) but theyve made them
-keeping your hu for that purpose is justifiable but that means your volumes would be out of wack
-your stations must be amazing because all i hear on the radio is the same set playlist and 75% of the time ADS and those stupid radio sounds which is why i've had my whole music library in my car since ever since

-good job on the pc but POST INSTALLED PICS :D

I heard the FM cards aren't very good.

What do you mean "your volumes would be out of wack"? If it's what I think, my HU has AUX inputs and the settings stay the same for each option. So whatever I set bass and crap to on the FM will stay with FM and what ever I set the CD to will stay set for CD so bass can be turned up and same for the AUX and Ipod inputs.

It's not installed yet. I have to get and run the wires and I should be done. I'm also gonna put a usb plug in the cigarette lighter so I'll be able to just plug in my thumb drive or whatever..

i heard mixed reviews on the fm

actually i meant your volumes. how would you adjust your volumes if your deck is in your glove box? its very inconvenient if you have to reach in your glove box to change stations or mess with the volumes.
i understand you can adjust your pcs volume but the hu is another story

lol i just saw you have an 08 (i dont have steeringwheel controls)

Yes that and plus when I get the aftermarket HU the face will be reachable and most likely have a remote.

I'm interested in this post...as I am currently lookin for a new HU to replace my stock 6-disc mp3 cd player! =) I saw a car PC a few years back built right into the center console of a lexus ooo man that sparked a great idea.

Because I have a very large music collection, (55000+) mp3s, I am aiming for a similar project to the one you have =P going on right now.

Problem is, I wouldn't know how much power it needs to draw from the car battery? and if so....how to get some inverter/converter for the PC to the car battery.... I'm confused on that, but I would definitely be interested in seeing the final turn out.....(and maybe a little help with a DIY?? )

Keep us posted man! btw, my last resort is to do a new HU w/ USB Support....lots cheaper but might not read all my mp3s correctly :X

I might do a little write up when I'm done.

I just ordered a few usb cables and a svga cable. I think I'm going to use the composite video on the monitor for a rear cam. The monitor has a hidden feature where if you hook it up right it will throw the rear cam on automatically when you throw it in reverse.

Here's a pic of all the wires I ran throughout the week and this weekend. These are for the carputer and there's wires for the cold cathodes that you can't see. I have all to the front and now I just need to put them all in the right places.

The wires are 6usb, 1vga, 1power, 1negative, and 1accessory . The ones you can't see are 1power and 1 neg for cold cathodes. Don't worry it will be cleaned up.lol I'm picky about that.

It's been a while but the carputer is in the car and it boots up. I just got to clean up the wires some and start loading the gps and maybe a new front end (thinking roadrunner).

I might also build a box around the computer and suede it up to look all nice. I'll post pics soon.

Will try and get some pics up tomorrow.

Yes a 7" touch screen which there's a pic of at the top of this page but not in the car.
