It may sound good in that box, but since it isn't really designed for such small spaces i think you are losing a lot of sound out of that kicker. Seems to me to be a lot of wasted wattage.
yeah a picture wouldnt show you much, it is just raised 1/2" due to the spacer. the floor fits over it fine, and there isnt any problems. even if i am "loosing sound" as you say I could be, it still is trumpin over the sq10 by far.

I'd hope it's louder than an SQ10 given that it's made to take more power and it's not a shallow speaker.

As for using a CVT in that box...I can't imagine there's much as far as low end to the thing. Considering that the smallest recommended box from kicker is > 2x the enclosure...it's gotta be punchy as all hell.

Modeled it up and yeah, it's definitely louder overall but with an insanely emphasised peak above 50Hz.

There's a reason there are so many speaker companies...different people enjoy different things.

I'm just a bit confused as to how a speaker that's 4.25" deep fits into a box that is 3.25" deep from mounting flange to the bottom and only 4" deep total. That thing has got to be sticking out like an inch.

Ahhh...they have a clearance plate...that frees up a 1/2" but still...I want pictures

I will take them then I dont mind showing off the goods! Can I email them to someone and they can post em for me? Ill do it tonight/tomorrow at the latest.

I believe chris is right There is a reason there are different speaker companies, different people like different things.

Like I said, and I have posted before plenty of good things about eD and have spend a few dollars with the company I like what they do over there in Iowa. The sQ10 in particular just didnt rock my socks off after I got over the initial break in I just wanted more and more (when the windows were down, and moving at 45+mph).My tC I only sound dampered the doors, but sitting quiet and still it was a great sub, and clear. No complaints. I just wanted more of it (maybe the dual or quad sq10's would do it!)

Q: Do products I buy from HookedOnTronics have warranty coverage?
A: Products sold by HookedOnTronics are packaged with the corresponding USA manufacturer warranty and service information (except cell phones). All the products sold on this site are original and unaltered, and are sold at a substantial discount over regular retail and manufacturer minimum suggested prices. The low prices offered by HookedOnTronics, are in general, not authorized by many manufacturers. In those situations, where the manufacturer does not authorize HookedOnTronics to sell at the prices advertised on our website, those manufacturers may decline to honor the warranties that generally accompany the product being purchased. HookedOnTronics cannot be held responsible for the refusal of a manufacturer not to cover or honor one of their warranties. In the event a manufacturer does refuse to honor one of their warranties, please contact us and we will make every effort to help you obtain service for your item.

that would include kicker. call em' up

I have the sq10 and feel that it is great. I think I have almost 300 watts rms going to it... I do have to occasionally adjust it on the fly so that I don't get any clipping...

THAT'S why you use PayPal...

If the sub doesn't break within the first week or so, it's not usually going to break. If it does, or if it's bad from the beginning, just file a PayPal claim.. no big deal.

Most companies are really cool if you approach them directly.. check this out:

I bought a pair of Infinity 6.5" seperates like 3 years ago on Ebay. Had them sitting in a closet until just a couple weeks ago, when I installed them in the tC. Got them all in, and realized that not one but BOTH tweeters were defective. Sucked ___. I wrote them an email and explained my entire situation, and without even wanting a bill of sale or anything, they shipped me out two replacement tweeters free of charge. It's all in how you deal with a company. I know as a business owner that if someone approached me genuinely with an issue, I would react in the same way: Always, always take care of your people.

Also.. after researching this all day while reading review after review and comparing specs, I'm going with the Pioneer Premier TS-SW1041D.

http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pn...969808,00.html

Why? 2 7/8" mounting depth, and specifically designed to work in ultra small enclosures all the way down to .3. All the reviews that I could find say that the bass is incredible, and especially in small enclosures. No spacer rings to fab up either. Under $100 shipped on Ebay.

Dude..if you really want the Pioneer 10" TS...I know where you can get it cheaper shipped and reliably!

..I just bought 2 of them for myself so I did a lot of the leg work. I recently modeled all the of the shallow subs I could find. It came down to a few choices..but I ended up picking up a pair of the 10" Pioneers. I still have not had a chance to run them yet. I have to get my amp wiring redone before I am happy reconnecting everything.

Again..let me know if you want that place I got mine.

Also..if you have Excel I can send you a copy of the theoretical output of this sub. I got a spreadsheet off of a websited (diysubwoofer.org I believe) and all you do is plug the T/S numbers in to find what you can expect. You can also change crossover info, cabin gain, ports, etc.

Just fyi...the theoretical graph, while nice...is very very off compared to real world

Usually it's never below real output, but peaks etc. based on the sensor location when doing testing really screw with it

I understand that..but you need something to base your judgement on if you do not have anybody around or access to any of the items to test.

Wow.. nice! Get those hooked up.. I want to hear test results! Good to know that I wasn't the only one that came to the same conclusion..

So do tell.. Where is the best source for them? PM if need be but I don't know why it should be a secret..

also if you look at the graph of the kicker you have over an 8 db gain in 20 hz. this may be loud but for sq will just suck. if you look at the eD sub while not as loud you get a nice flat curve which is if you're about sq is what is about.

Some tag team action going on there.. wow.. this thread was about options, not lips on eD..

Anywho.. I've been trying to find the correct spreadsheet to run models on the Pioneer sub from the diysubwoofers page, but can only seem to find links to other people projects but no models.. If someone wants to do it and post it, here are the numbers for the TS-SW1041D

Revc: 3.3
mH: 1.850
Zmax: 42.87
Fs: 43.5
Qms: 11.25
Qes: 1.04
Qts: 0.95
Vas: 0.291 cu/ft - 8.251 l
Rms: 4.773
Mms: 196.99
Cms: 6.8 x 10 ^-5
Diam: 8.2
Sd: 53.4
BL: 13.67
Xmax: 0.24
Hvc: 0.87
Hag: 0.39

Sounds like all things considered it's the best thing for that box..

Graphing the Pioneer vs. the SQ10 based on the specs you listed...it models very similar to the Kicker in a .3 cube box where it's 7dB down at 20Hz.

Honestly, I made that box for our driver. And from everything I've modeled in it, it's the only thing that comes close to a flat frequency response.

But as I said earlier...flat isn't what everyone wants. If someone wants a box designed around a different sub to allow for better mounting, shoot me an e-mail and I can work something out.

YEP! Thats the Excel sheet I used for my calculations!

I LOVE the amount of work he put into those sheets. His website is really informative too.

How accurate all of it is? I am not sure. That is why I seeked out somekind of Excel sheet to do the leg work for me.

I've been meaning to write the website owner and give him my personal thanks.

Actually..I tried to mimic the SQ10 box myself..and I had "too many chiefs, not enough indians" so to speak. I had too many people know what they wanted how they wanted. I ended up with a box SIMILAR to the eD box...but not what I wanted.

So after all of this..I'm thinking about taking the remaing MDF and doing my own design that will sit flush with the "60" part of the folding back seat. We'll see what happens.

Theoretical performance of a 13Ov.2 in a GTI with cabin gain accounted for vs. the actual performance of the speaker as measured with a Term-Lab.

As you can see, close...but the peaks are a lot more pronounced in real life
