Eclipse has just released its new NAV DVD for the AVN2454, AVN5435, AVN30D.

I called about this to get a price, and HOLY $hit $320 can anyone get a better deal on this?
That seems outrageous to me......but maybe that is just me

I JUST got the avn5435 at circuit city yesterday with a no interest until 2008 and 10% off the price for signing up for a new account. So I got it for about $1259 before tax!
I am gonna hopefully install it this week! I can't wait!
My DVD is Version 1.2, and I seen eclipse does have the new one, just didnt know if this was the "newest" already included? If not, what version is the new one? 1.3?

i heard that if you purchase a nav when a newer version of the software is availible you are entitled for a free upgrade. you have to prove that you purchased the unit after the release of the new version. i dont know if thats true with Eclipse but with kenwood and Garwin based systems thats true.

The map data is as of 2004 I believe, and to me isn't fit to be worth $300+. Now is it came with firmware upgrades that improved the MP3 player and made it interface with Sirius/traffic, I'd pay for it. Until then, I'll drive on 2003 map data and wing it if I need to (which I haven't had to yet).
I read on this post at this site, that it has a firmware update that makes mp3 discs load quicker, and they are passing around the dvd copies too it seems...I hope I get a legit copy, or else will have to find it online and burn a copy myself...

DAAAAAANG IT! Horrible..I just got the unit 2 days ago, and dont get the latest software...I'll be mad if the new shipments have the new version...but I thought it was v1.3
this is the exact email reply I got:
The map version that came with the unit is the one that is supposed to be
with the unit. An update version 1.4 has recently come out, it is one that
you would need to purchase. We do not offer a free upgrade on the map disc.

So I could use a copy for $50 too haha...probably will just download it, and burn a copy, but found they are DVD-DL and I dont have a Dual Layer burner! But will find a way to make a copy of a new version :-D[/i]

That price is absolutely shameful. Its a friggen disc, with a production cost of about 3 bucks. They also can't claim you are spending the money for them to do the update itself, because it needs to be done for future product sales anyway. This is just a way to stick it to customers that weren't aware of this cost when they bought the product and basically have to choose between outdated map information and paying a rediculous amount of money.
I love Eclipse, but this is unforgivable. Good job on the usenet upload.

Eh, it's not much better for any kind of map update disks. The problem isn't the companies selling 'em, it's Navtech and their royalty fees. The Alpine updates were also $300 each.
When you consider it, it takes a lot to map out the whole USA and database all those addresses/POI's/Phone Numbers.
