Alright, I have a few questions. Maybe you guys can help
I just recieved my 2 Alpine Type R 12" Subs and 2 Alpine MRP450 AMPS. I am going to run one amp to each sub. I am going to try my hand at fiberglassing a custom box in the trunk. My question is:
Are there any positives or negatives to reversemounting the subs? (you know where you can see the magnet instead of the Speaker)
I want to do this for the show factor of the awesome looking subs. And also because it makes mounting depth not as important. I also would think it will give me more internal box volume from a smaller box becuase the speaker wont be taking space.
Will it sound as good?
Any tips or anything else I should consider?
THANKS ALL

I love pictures so there will be a ton. You guys will be sick of seeing pictures
The fiberglass should be interesting. I have never done it, but I am willing to try!!!

although a little less displacement in the airspace of the box ocerall sound will suffer... basically the woofer is working the opposite way it was designed to, you will lose cone area for sound so your woofers would not hit as hard but people do it eveyday so the question is what are you going for.... sound or wow

I want both ( I know that is unrealiztic). So if this is true, I want Sound over wow. The speakers look good so I will still have the show. And I got good subs so I should use them for what they are made for. So if what you say is true, I will stick to the normal placement. Maybe I will Just switch one around for shows and put it back for every day.

hey good luck on you fiberglass, Im new to fiberglassing myself but if you got any questions Ive learned a lot about it these last couple of months. check out my first project https://www.scionlife.com/forums/vie...193&highlight= I actuall just ordered myself new subs and an amp so i going to finally get rid of that box and build one like I want it. Are you going to have your box vented or sealed?

i def. disagree but test it yourself and I believe you will hear a difference... I have installed both many times and I can def. tell a difference but I dunno if that is because I am just really picky or because I have dealt with it so many times... either way they are your subs and your decision i am partial to the three sub set up with one sub reversed for show but I would not do it for everyday listening... just my .02

only thing to remember about inverted sub mounting is reverse the polarity of the wiring since your subs sill be facing the opposite direction that they're intended...
there is a SLIGHT bit of difference in sound from one to the other, but it takes a pretty well trained ear to hear it... most wouldn't notice.

Thanks for the input everyone. i will post pictures of my new goodies later. I just wish I could do something with them but I have to wait till I move in 2 weeks to start/.
You should only have to worry about a degraded sound quality if it's a poorly engineered speaker.
As long as it has proper venting and you don't end up hearing air being forced over/through parts of the motor structure/basket during play, there's absolutely no difference at all.
Things that are directional(mids) sound awful inverted

im building my system right now and 3 12's are made inverted
ive made quite a few systems b4 that have been inverted
if you need less box space you just factor out the displacement of the sub and caculate with that.
thus...you have a smaller box and the same output
(ive done two boxes side by side)
