Just ordered an F700BT. It comes with a harness and a mounting kit. Is it a pain in the ___ to install?

No they are really easy to install.Pop the old dash apart and remove the stock radio, install the new harness. Not sure about the bypass details on the 700 but sure it is close or the same as the others, mount the deck back so the door closes, there is a post with pictures some where on herre that shows how.hook up harness and put dash back together.

Install takes under an hour not including time to bypass, any amp or RCA cables,or PACI,or other stuff like blutooth.

yes, but you need to buy the PAC-SWI. It is sold seperatly for about 50 bucs. Seems there have been some issues with it and this unit though. I would wait for the time being as there is supposed to be an upgraded PAC-SWI that may have better functionality with the F series

Hey,
I just got the f900bt for my tc. I ordered the combo pack from crutchfield. I had it installed because i am not very handy. (ive been trying to fix my toilet for the last 2 months and have been disastrously unsuccessful). Anyhow...when you order the combo from crutchfield, in order to install the kit it comes with...the door on the top of unit in the car had to be removed. I really liked having a door over the audio system...As i see in the pics that has been posted in this forum ....that person has the door still there. Where did you get the kit from???? How much was the kit??? The kit from crutchfield does fit really well and does not leave any gaps but i think i still prefer having the door.

Other that that i liked ordering from crutchfield because it includes the rear view camera.

mate, i got mine from crutchfield, and everything fits fine on mine. my door is still intact, and closes over the unit. i think you might have taken it to a poor installer.

That seems weird because it fits perfectly if you take the door out. even the lines match up pretty well. Is it possible that this is a new kit...i just got it.

Kunalmj,

Crutchfield offers two styles of what they call mounting kits.

One fits around the HU, filling the small gaps left on either side of the Pioneer unit creating a flush fit with the stock radio opening. With this application, the HU is recessed into the dash which allows the door to remain attached to the car. In order to close the door, you must first modify the stock radio mounting brackets. Check this post for details on how to perform the radio mounting bracket mod.

https://www.scionlife.com/forums/vie...enna+placement

This Crutchfield mounting kit allows for the HU to be installed as shown in the thread.

http://www.crutchfield.com/p_1209582...t.html?tp=3121

Based on your description of your installation, it sounds like you got this mounting kit.

http://www.crutchfield.com/p_142SCN2...t.html?tp=3121

This kit is designed to set the face of the HU flush with the dash, mimicing how a factory Nav system is installed.

If you reinstall the HU with the style of mounting bracket first listed in this reply and modify the mounting brackets, you should be able to re-use the door.

You should run the idea by your local installer before ordering parts to insure the parts you buy are the parts you'll need. Crutchfield sells the part for $13.00 + shipping.

Maybe if your installation is cool about it, they'll do the re-work for free.

The Pioneer F Series is by far the worst unit available from Pioneer.

Here was my mic placement:

I use the past tense in referring to the unit because I went through 2 F900's and 1 F90 before I gave up on the unit completely. I ended up getting a refund for the unit and getting the Kenwood DNX7120 and couldn't be happier.

Sounds like the unit lost power. Any battery issues with the car related to the cold weather?
