Placing GPS on top of Air vent..is it really a good idea?
1st I had it on the bracket of my HU, which was working ok, but not always getting full reception, so i placed it on top of my top vent, do you think the gps reciever could get damaged due to heat coming out in the winter?

Are you talking about actually installing a GPS there somewhere or is it a removable one you stick to your windshield? If its removeable then just adjust it so its a few inches above the vent.
I think he's talking about the gps antenna and not the unit itself. I don't think putting it in the vent is too good of an idea. The equipment can be a little sensitive, but then again it would be sitting in the car in the hot and summer and cold of winter so it's up for debate.
I've had mine inside the dash ziptied somewhere, reception was very mediocre. Currently mine is crammed somewhere up the headliner on the right side with pretty decent signal. Others have placed it in the sunroof track and under the front windshield vent or something like that.

mine is in the dash in the plastic that is part of the inside of the vents. I have great reception and I plan on putting my sirius antenna there (it is a completely stealth install.... ill try and get pics.
Ah yeah I should clarify....it's above the center vents IN the dash. It may not work with some of the thicker receivers, but I lucked into an AyAy Sir receiver. Titanium case, a bit bigger than a credit card
