6th picture down... shows u how it should look after I drilled mine with 3/16' drill bit

drill where their are small indents and use those to mount the d3 instead of original holes so the door closes flush

yes.. use those indents or dots and drill with the 3/16 drill bit

or just compare the unmodified brackets with my picture and you will see what i mean by indents

I still haven't done this mod so that my door closes either..

So did you not want to put in the 3rd bolt for a reason or did you put it in there at a later time, Phanon? (Referencing the 7th picture down).

if you are talking about the one with the harness, it looks like there isnt a hole for it (the third one), or its covered by the metal. and if its just the harnes youd only need 2 on each side (its mainly food looks doing this kinda set up, since the metal harness is your main one. there looks to be still three screws that actually hold the deck in the metal bracket. at least from the looks of it.

didnt think of it at the time i was installed it and skipped it. was too focused on the metra kit. i have yet to put on that 3rd screw. works fine with just those 2 screws.

why don't you guys take a dremel to the back of the radio and "gut" out where the volume **** is. I did that and my radio door closes perfectly without having to recess the unit in more.

lots of ppl dont have dremels and could be a disaster if you do dremel and mess up.

drilling into brackets is much easier and cleaner also imo

lol, i think you have to try to mess up. its not that hard, you see where the **** hits, and dremel away. as far as being easier and cleaner? i did it my way cuz at first i tried to drill, but i didn't have a bit for drilling into metal. so the dremel was easier in that sense. as far as clean, you can't see it at all, it is behind the door after all.

but ya, i guess if you don't have a dremel, then my way is hard. just throwing out another option out there.

Having the headunit recessed by drilling in the brackets is probably the easiest method.. and since it recesses the radio in the dash a little further, it keeps the sun from glaring on it as much as before ;)

i actually know a guy that messed up. he accidentally dremmeled the wrong side of the door (still the black side, just not the side where the little knub was. lol) no names. hahahhaa ;)

hey i drilled where that picture (6th down) shows. IT WORKED GREAT! course i have the kenwood ddx-7019, but the door closes with the radio off and with the screen in the inverted angle and the first angle-out (u know when the screen has the bottom part angled out...) if u adjust the scrren angle any more, the door wont close i think. of course with our sunroof the inverted angle works best anyways. thanks again for the great diy help.
