I am glad I found this; I have the exact same problem. My situation is just a little different but the problem is the same, no lights on HVAC panel but only when turning on the parking lights or headlights. I have a Pioneer FH-P800BT that was professionally installed at car toys but opted not to have the steering wheel controls hooked up. Everything was fine for over 6 months then one night looked down no lights.

Here is what's interesting for a few weeks if I hit the emergency flashers I could get the lights to come on. I would have to keep messing with the hazards button to get them working. They now have quit working all together. I will have car toys double check the harness and cabling as I am hoping it’s just something loose. Otherwise I will try replacing the ac unit as mentioned.
