Ok, a little update for me...

I did have my amp mounted like so...

Well, I upgraded to a nice Infinity 450+ watt amp. Mounted it like so....
http://home.comcast.net/~driveeuro/DSCN0614.JPG

I just took a spare sheet of 3/4" MDF. Cut it to fit the space. Then just coutersunk some holes to match up with the little platic black hold downs that were in there. I shoulda taken some pics before I screwed down the amp. But basically all that's hold it in is those two black push down plugs.

And of course the sub is still mounted like it was before...

My new setup is coming along. Still need to bondo, sand, primer, paint, and then do the rest of the trunk in fiberglass with all the amps and all sunken in. Not sure if I am going to reverse mount the subs or flush mount them. Flush mounted I can still use the cover so no one can see in. Not to sure.

2 - 8" Memphis MClass MS84D subs in a modified bazooka enclosure
Orion 265 Cobalt amp
Factory head unit for now

I have the amp sitting where the styrofoam cubby used to be, I will post a picture of that when it is finished. Basically I am making a particle board box that gives me a little more breathing room for the amp.

Finally finished everything up tonight. The amp rack didnt come out as clean as I would like, I had some issues with the carpet folds and overspray on adhesive, but its all good.

I put sprayed some sound deadening material on the inside and outside of the box, as well as put some sheet sound deadening material (1/2" thick) on the outside of the box. This really made the sub box a lot less "boomy" but made it a pain to get back in the car.

The best part is everything hides out of sight, and I still have a spare tire.

oh papi...don't be so afraid to DIY. use those huge speakers you have now, and make the box yourself.

see...i would be totally down for that....but now i learned that speakers need cubic feet for air flow etc etc. and i still have to do my homework on how to figure that out.

one day when we meet up u could give me some first hand input. the double din is good though...1/3 of the price compared to the d1's.
