Push Button Start w/ RFID
I like the idea with the clutch safety. You say the only downside would be that IGN will always be on with ACC. Why is this a downside? I don't really mind if this was the case...
And i'll always be able to change it to a more complex method like you mentioned with the one button - that'd be awesome - later on.
But last question for now:
Do you know of where I can purchase the relays needed?
Thanks,
Brett

It is a downside only if you just want to listen to the radio. With the ign powered the gauges are lit and on, the needles sweep, etc.
I would look on digikey.com for the relays.
To tell you exactly what you need I would need to know more about the ign and start circuit in the car, which I could dig into soon.

Digikey.com:
http://search.digikey.com/scripts/Dk...keywords=relay
Doesn't look like there are any DPST.
Any other ideas?
EDIT: Maybe there are at digikey, just not in the 'automotive category'.
http://search.digikey.com/scripts/Dk...;keywords=dpst
There are some 12vdc DPST (one NO one NC) but i'm not sure which....
I'll do some searching around for IGN / Start Circuit info too - i assume this is for the relay's amperage?
Or maybe if someone else already knows they'll post
Thanks,
Brett

After some research, I found a few DPST 12vdc relays on digikey, there are three total i found:
Digi-Key Part Numbers:
PB481-ND
PB484-ND
PB486-ND
All of them are 30A, so hopefully that'll be sufficient for this project. They are also Normally Open Contacts (I ASSUME!). How do I verify this?
Which/Do you think these will work?
Thanks,
Brett

engifineer,
I think i'm just going to use my current SPST relay and tie in to it, like you said before. I want to get going on the construction part of the project, so that will allow me to do so. I can always order and find a DPST later on and replace it for a cleaner install.

If I CAN do it together in one button, where in the configuratio would the button be wired?
Thanks,
Brett
I finally came up with a plan and put together the full latch circuit in a little project box from radioshack. I changed the wiring diagram a little bit to tend to my needs. I'll post the diagram, pictures, and materials i used soon. This afternoon i'll be wiring it into my car, and testing everything out. I'm almost certain it won't work today at least, and i'll have to troubleshoot.
I'll keep yall updated...

How would this work?

I push the button only: IGN On
I hold the button while holding clutch: IGN On & Car Starts
Press NC [OFF] button: IGN Off & Car Off
Two questions:
Will this theoretically work?
What rating diode would i need?
Thanks,
Brett

How could I integrate this with my starter so that when i'm in range, i can simply push an "Engine Start" button? I don't want to have to use my keys.
Any suggestions would be great

and the hand free remote accessory to go with it http://scytek.net/product_accessories_home.html and you can arm and disarm without touching anything.
You do realize, the K9 Sombra cuts off power to the starter when it arms, AKA, when you walk away form the car. I am going to wire an S2000 push-button start to the ignition, and take out the immobilizer all together, that way, when i am near the car, the alarm supplies power to the Starter wire, and ACC.
When i get in range, it unlocks and turns on the ACC. When i press the start button, it runs the starter, and then stays on until i press the button again. It wont turn on if i am out of range and the start button is pressed, because the starter wont even have any power.
And for those concerned about the engine shutting off while you are in it, the alarm system only cuts power to the starter, not IGN. Thats where i have a question for everyone here, if the power to ACC is cut, the car will still run, right? Isnt that what the normal key does, turn off the ACC power, and then when it is in the on position, it begins to run on IGN power instead?
To verify that it has the right outputs, look on page 11 here:

this topic is done and old but i just wanted to add this lol. i was reading this thread and the original poster wanted a start engine button and have his car unlock and disarm when he walked up to it. my friend's 08 altima does all this. as he walks up to the car it disarms, unlocks and then he pushes his start engine button when he gets inside. the lazy jackass dosen't even have to take his key out of his pocket hahaha.
Fun with RFID:
Jon Oxer, who has been labeled “Australia’s geekiest geek” by a Sydney newspaper, has made some adjustments to his car. Most are not that surprising for a man who clearly takes his technology seriously: 24-hour internet access in Mazda RX-8 might be unusual, but not that extreme. The remote ignition controlled via his iPod Touch and iPhone could be considered downright handy.
Then there is the keyless entry option. Oxer has installed an RFID reader on the window of his car which is interfaced to the car’s security system. This enables him to unlock his car with the RFID tag he has had implanted in his left arm.
Oxer has also modified his house to take advantage of the tag, which operates door locks and other features. The tag was implanted via a tool usually found in veterinary clinics.

Sorry guys I know this is an old thread but I want to put a push button start kit on my car & I was looking for some information in a couple threads. Have anyone finished making a kit or know of any good kits on the market. Here is the kit I am thinking about going with. It has everything I was looking for built in.
