Default Quick Fiberglass Question

Everyone out there that has done fiberglass work before (as in building a sub woofer box).
You use fiberglass cloth? or fiberglass matting?

Really? I was told the cloth was stronger than the matting because its more tightly woven or something like that. Although saving money does sound nice

I used chop mat. It is stronger because the strands go all different directions and interlock instead of the cloth where the weave only goes two directions. It does look prettier though and I am guessing is easier to use. The chop mat clumped up when I painted on the resin. Not fun.

mat is stronger...

If your doing forms to a car a first layer of cloth is good to get a good clean smooth outside shape... then lay more mat down on top.

The cloth is technically stronger but from experience the mat is extremely easier to use, since you can rip it and it will thicken up much faster than the cloth. You will need more of the cloth to get the same thickness as the mat also. I have used mat in most of my work and only dealt with cloth once, it is a much better choice. good luck and if you are looking for ideas check out my box FS in the classifieds, it can give you a few good ideas if you are still looking

The cloth is not stronger sorry!

The mat is strong its got pieces going every which way. It makes it much stronger.

As for the mat a 1.5 oz is a good medium to use... easy to work and still not super thin.

Get a paint brush and chop off like a inch of the brush.... makes it more stiffer and gets the bubbles out.
