radio noise
While me and my friend in the 07 tC were driving around we heard a wierd whinning sound comming from the speakers of his stock radio(which I didnt know at first)... it sounded like a turbo spooling so I thought WTF? It happened I think after he put his radio in AUX or somthing idk.....he said the radio is picking up the engine's note lol and thats what it sounded like.....when he brought up the rpms the sound got higher .....lol does this happen to anyone else?
That usually does not happen with a stock stereo as the stock stereo is made of that car. However, if you change anything out, or add anything to the stereo it is possible to get the noise.
The most common reason for this is poor grounding. Generally the grounding problem is from the speakers and speaker lines, but it can be from the stereo as well. There is no real easy way to fix this particular issue.
You said that it started when he put his radio in Aux? Can he take it out of that or return it back to the way it was? Start from there and see if you can fix the problem.

That's a cool feature Scion added to make you think you're driving a turbo.
j/k
It happens to me also when I use my SIRIUS satellite portable unit. If I take off the unit from it's dock while I'm driving, I can hear the 'turbo' noise. Once I put the unit back on, the noise magically goes away. Its pretty normal.

That happened to me. I was listening to music from my PSP and unhooked the Aux jack from it when i was goin to work and threw the Aux jack randomly in my car while the other end was still plugged in. Later when I went to move my car the Aux function was still on and the other end of the aux cable must have been touching something cuz it made that noise. Sounded like it was a turbo spooling cuz it was getting louder and higher as the RPMs of the car rose. Was pretty cool actually.
Someone needs a Ground Loop Isolator. Thats if you have an amp hooked up. Toss this on the rca's before the amp and your all set. And yes it will work with any rca inputs to the radio too.

In the manual it stats that if you get that sound while you have power hooked up through the lighter jack, like I do with my iPod, to run it on its battery power. Once I run it off of purely battery power it is fine, once I hook up the power, I get the buzz.

I had the same thing happen with mine..take it back to your dealersip (if it is still under warranty) and they will fix it. I am getting mine done tomorrow. They add a new modulator and an inline noice filter.
Scion put out a notice about a week ago..I have a friend that works at Kieth Peirson Toyota about a mile away and he told me about it.
By the that is obviously at no charge.

I am running my Roady XT via the cig lighter and for better sound via the AUX (minus the alt whine)
See above post for my fix
Or if your closest dealership is like 100 miles away you can just throw in a ground loop isolater before you plug it into the aux like i did with my roady xt and it solves the problem also. Cheaper for me to do that than to drive 100 miles there and back.
Okay I have some pretty sh*^y news...
I had the noise filter put in today and it took care of the alternator whine except for at intial start up but now I have a steady whistle coming across the speakers, not very happy about that.
Does anyone have some suggestions for this, because I'm now at a loss.
I don't have the cash handy to get the head unit that I want to get, and I can't just settle.
So any advice will help.

i bought a ground loop isolator from wal-mart, then i ran a AUX/rca cable. Meaning it had the 1/8 inch or whatever male end to plug into the roady, and rca to plug into the isolator. then i used the same type of plug to run from the isolator to the AUX plugin. I think one end of the isolator has male fittings so you might need some male-to-male connectors or if you can find a cord with female ends that would be even better. Then i just hid all the wire and the isolator under the console.
