Default Removing Paint...?

Last night I spent a few hours painting my speedo trim and door handles. This morning I put them back in my car and decided I really don't like them painted. It's just not my style.

So... can anyone tell me how I can remove the paint and go back to the OEM finish? Paint thinner? Paint stripper? What brand? What process?

If it helps, I used 2 coats of primer, 3 coats of DupliColor silver metallic, and 3 coats of DupliColor clear.

Ummm...

you're not going to be able to remove the paint back to the original finish unless someone else has something else in mind. I mean you could, but it wouldn't look very smooth.

You will probably need to repaint it to another color that you like or buy a replacement.

I don't have a safe recommendation for a remover that would also not eat the plastic. I had some overspray from where I forgot to mask when I did my speedo ring, the way I handled it was to clean with alcohol, then mask and paint with standard flat black paint for plastics, Krylon Fusion Flat Black I believe. It matches the xB dash perfectly, can't say about the tC.

Mineral spirits, paint thinner and acetone will eat your plastic, pretty much any petroleum-based solvent is a no-no.

Edit: Pinksylk, wow, that has got to be the girliest dash mod I have ever seen. The little flowers are what really push it to the next level.

i dunno. it's just not my style. the speedo trim looks pretty ok, but the door handles just look flashy and out of place to me. when i see them, my first thought is "wow, those aren't supposed to be silver"

shrug. to each their own.

thanks for the input everyone. glad i didn't go buy paint thinner today like i was planning on doing....

what if i sanded down the paint job i did and used some flat black and more clear coats? would that be my best bet?
