Default Scion Optional Navigation unit

I just checked out the "in dash" navigation unit offered as a scion accessory at a local dealership. I love how the system works compared to aftermarket NAV units. I actually think the ergonomic layout is better than the aftermarket ones IMO. I mean Toyota/Scion is constantly updating their NAV software disc for better and accurate service. Regarding points of interest (POI) displays, it actually has franchise icons, a feature that most aftermarket ones don't have.......Cool! It'll show the nearest Burger King, White Castle, Panda Express, Shell, BP Amoco, & etc. icons in the vicinity. It's too bad that the unit does not play DVD Video or other medias of that nature. The unfortunate thing for us tC owners is that it is only an option for the 08' xB and xD. I know all 3 Scion brands use the same standard equipt radio unit, so I was puzzled to why it wouldn't be an option for the tC. My only guess is the interference issues with the radio door on the tC. Other than that, I would assume the Nav system would be completely functional if it was hooked up to the tCs radio wire harness.
Anyone tried hook'n up this Scion Nav to any model year tC?

What do you guys/gals think?

it is an option on the tc. They make it sit flush with the waterfall instead of putting a door on it.

I actually played around with the Nav unit at Scion Backstage here in Chicago. I asked the guy working the booth if it was the same size as the head unit in my 2006 xA and he didnt know. So he actually jumped on the phone and called up a guy in the offices in Cali and had them check it out. I was told that the size is just about the same but the problem was the plugs in the back, they were different. I don't know how close it would be for a tC. Just my $0.02

The plugs should be different for non navs and navs system. Since the nav system has an external brain that ties into the vehicles system. Kinda like the nav system setup in other Toyota's and Lexus'.

It's an option. Really?
I was wondering about that too because in the scion magazine brochure, it does not show that it is an option for the tC. Good to know. But, if I owned a tC, I wouldn't sacrifice the radio door. I'm sure you can set back the unit on the radio bracket for door mechanism clearance.

Yes, it sits flush so its in full display screaming "come steal me" But for 2200 bucks, id rather get a true Alpine DVD Nav that also has Hawaii and Alaska maps (the Scion one does not have HI or AK maps)

I stand corrected.
I would like to see how it would look on the tC.

Not the best resolution, but here is the ideal setup on the 08' xB. Not sure what size the screen is, but I like the silver trim on the sides. Baby blu buttons look alright.

For $2200 I rather get AVIC-D3 for around $800 or so + amp & sub and call it end of the day with a full system setup. Factory product are usually far too restrictive too.

i just bought an 08 TC w/factory navi (actually havent even picked it up from dealer yet) and although i know i could have gotten an aftermarket navi for much less..to me it was the convenience factor, i mean chances are if i drove off the lot w/out navi i would never walk in to a place and hand over a 'g' to get something installed...just wouldnt happen, with the factory nav i can just add it to my loan and not think twice about it. Plus its a beautiful nav system....i love alpine blue and as soon as i can im swapping the gauge cluster and the HVAC to match!!! ill post pics of the finished product soon!

Wow at 6% APR if you have good credit. you are paying at least additional $500 over the course of 5 years for the nav..... well whatever floats your boat.

Thats true that most dont have it, but eclipse (the TRUE makers of the interface / software for the scion navigation) have that on their navigation systems (I know because I have an AVN5435 and I have icons for all those things)

I have to say this though in defense of the Scion Navigation System, that it will add to the resale value of the car, and dealers will increase the value of the car, rather than not give you anything extra for an after market navigation kit.

Is alpine using eclipse navi? everything ive seen including onscreen logos in the SNS demo show that the unit is made by alpine.

I have one as well, I got it with my 08 and love it. It was a logical choice because I am new to the area, and it was included with my financing.

Its user friendly and looks hot. What was this about not being able to play DVDs? Sure it does.
