Default Sigh..

So Ive had my 10" Polk DB104's for about 4 months now and Im not too pleased with their performance. Compared to the Elemental Design 10in. subs, how would they fare? If anyone has had any experience with both, speak up! Anyways.. maybe I shouldve gone for two 12's, just thought two 10's wouldve done the job.

What are you not liking about the subs? Not enough output? How much power are you feeding them?

Well for starters, after the break-in period, they still werent up to my standard, they dont sound clean at all, the bass is very poor. Im not sure what I have on my amp settings off the top of my head, but I have a Crunch amp, PZi 250.2, pushing 1200 watts, this http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...roductID=16690

I wish I couldve gotten kickers, but at the time I just needed something to tie me over and I guess this is what I get for skimping.

I'm just running the ed sq10 in the tc stealth box -- nothing as extravagant as a couple 10s or 12's in a larger box -- but it's one of the best sounding outputs I've ever heard.

it's got enough thump for me and the quality and response is dead on. I'm hearing double bass drum that I thought was just a synth bass line in songs I've been listening to for years.

if you like your bass to shake the mirrors of the cars next to you, go for a bigger set up - but ed speaks are most def really good quality.

you might also try going back to basics-- I was running 312wrms@2ohms and the bass was distorted and weak - so I tried boosting with bass boosts and loudness options -- that just blew the speaker. So I upped the ohms to 4 which cut my watts in half and the with the same speaker (4ohm version as opposed to 2ohm) - there was twice as much bass and it was the clearest I've ever heard.

I think it mgith be in your amp, I have the same sub with an MTX amp and it sounds good. Possilbe upgrade your amp??

I belive that crunch does 200rms and 1200 extreme MAX.

Find a good 500rms amp and you will be good

1. it could be an amp problem
2. 10" speakers will fare fine...trust me. It just depends on your setup. every setup i've ever had were 10's. I had 2 10" MTX terminators in my old civic in HS, then when i had my Eclipse i had 1 Solo Baric 10" and that thing hit hard! and then in my tC i have a JL Audio 10w6 and it hits harder and sounds crisper than the solo baric. It all depends on your setup including amp and wires and headunit. if it's cheap...it's probably cheap!
Here's my favorite saying...
Good things aren't cheap, and cheap things aren't good

Check your box. Is it the right size for your sub? Also check to see if there is any air leakage.

One thing to consider...

That amp is 450W RMS, not 1000W. It's only got 50 amps of fusing

It might just be that you want more power for the subs.

Combine that with the fact that the subs seem to be single 4 ohm voice coils and you could only wire it to 8 ohms which would be about 150W each, or 2 ohms and the amp would try to kill itself.

How do you have the subs wired up right now?

It just sounds like you don't have the right amount of power to get the output you're looking for in there.

Let us know and we can help you more.

I have a sealed box made for two 10" subs, so Im sure theyre the right size.. As far as how theyre wired, I just have them... wired, haha. I have them connected to the amp, is there a specific way Im supposed to have them wired?

This is the sub btw http://www.crutchfield.com/S-nS8wSjf...asp?I=107DB104

EDIT

Since my setup blows so bad, Im just gonna upgrade and go with two 11Kv.2, and what ed amp is sufficient for these two bad boys??

First lessoned learned: Never skimp.
Second lesson: Dont listen to friends...........lol

Do you have one sub on each channel? a.k.a. did you just run wires from the positive/negative of the sub to the positive/negative of one of the amp's terminals? If so, you probably have much less power going to them than you think.
