Someone help me out real quik...ac to dc question
If i'm showing my car indoors and the battery is supposed to be disconnected, how do I run my electronics? A fellow member told me to look for a 110v to 12v inverter. Is this correct? and can someone link me to a place where I can buy one, or better yet have a picture as well too? i'm puzzled at the moment, i'd also like to know how you would connect it.
thanks in advance to anyone with knowledge of this sort of thing :D

Connected or disconnected while inside?? if you want to keep the car powered up without the engine running and the battery connected then get a smart battery charger and connect it to the battery and charge it as you run the car stuff. Vector VEC1093a is a 35 amp smart charger that works great for about $70.
You have a problem because you will end up resetting the ECU and radio antitheft if the battery is disconnect. Is the purpose of having the battery disconnected to prevent starting up the car?? Running a battery charger is a little dangerous if the output voltage is not properly regulated - you could fry a lot of the electronics in the car. I think a small battery powered jumper battery that plugs into the cig lighter would work pretty well for light powered accessories like dome light and radio without a lot of power amp otherwise you NEED the battery connected.

^^ it's done for all indoor shows. it's a safety issue.. mostly fire dept. stuff i think...
same thing with the less than 1/4 tank full rule.
you can't use a battery charger... or any of those emergency jumper things...
you MUST have a power supply connected to an outlet. kinda works like a car inverter that converts the car's DC to AC but in the opposite direction...
the only thing is it's much more expensive to go the other way around... power supplies (AC to DC) cost alot more money than your typical DC to AC inverters.
in addition, car events/shows typically charge a fee for using power.
you can ask any of our club buddies eujin. they'll know.

man thats totally wacked - there is more risk plugging in a car to ac power than a small battery. well then what you need is a 12 volt power supply - check at any electrical supply or radio shack for a supply used to run CB radios in the house.

i've got the 60amp version. works GREAT. you can get em on ebay for cheapish too!
you need 4 awg wire for the + and - runs (i have 10 feet for each lead), an inline fuseholder, and a couple of 4awg ring terminals.
worked great @ HIN back in december!

man.......im so confused with the "wiring" part. i cant jus buy the inverter and the electricity from the show and call it a day?
help pweez!
please explain with much simplicity if possible. i have no idea how this stuff works.
i registered for HIN for 3/24 and did not kno i had to disconnect my battery.
i feel like im screwed.........
you buy a dc power supply like this (40 amp should be efficiant, 50 or 60, the higher the more costly, and depends on what u wanna run..soo the more the better)

buy like 10 feet of 4gauge wiring for the positive, and negative, so 20 feet total...(got the info from Neothin, thank god someone spoke up! lol)

buy some 4gauge terminals for that wiring

connect those to the wiring you just bought
and take those terminals now and bolt them to your battery terminals that come from the car that connect to your battery..unscrew the bolt off, slip that terminal on and tighten the bolt down. now run the wiring under the car to the power supply, connect the +/-. and run an extension cord to an outlet and voila!

think of it this way... power and an inverter @ HIN costs you say 200 bucks everytime you show.
doing it this way is 300 to buy the inverter and wiring plus the cost of juice at the show. everytime you show after that, it costs 100 for just power because you already have your own inverter.
after 1 show-
$200 to rent
$300 to buy
after 2 shows-
$400 to rent
$400 to buy
after 3 shows-
$600 to rent
$500 to buy
and the gap will continue to get larger with the more shows you attend. pretty much it pays for itself after 2 HIN shows. I dont know about cali, but florida has 2 HIN's every year... orlando and miami. im paying the investment cost after just 1 year.
not bad if you ask me

yea. there is 2 shows in cali as well.
the first one 3/24. i registered.
but i didnt kno about the disconnect the battery thing. so im screwed.
i dont have the 300 rite now, or in time for the show.
so it looks like i wont be going..........and registration is non-refundable
atleast i kno for next time.
thanx again for the info
